So I'm working on a 3.5 Ranger revision where I take ACFs and mash them together with other improvements into one class closer to Duskblade or TOB. I got stuck on t he two-weapon fighting style, but since I've been playing a lot of pandemic 5e, and looking back at how complicated (and weak) TWF was in 3.5, it got me thinking.

Feel free to shamelessly link your own or favorite fixes as well.

New Feats

Dual-Wielding
Special: Counts as Two-Weapon Fighting feat for prerequisites.
As part of a standard attack or full-attack action, you may make one extra attack with the opposite end of a double weapon, unarmed strike, or light weapon in your off-hand. You may also gain the benefits of this feat with light flails, rapiers, whips, and scimitars. The extra attack is at your highest BAB, but all attacks you make have a -2 penalty to hit until the start of your next turn.
Additionally, you may make opportunity attacks with both your main and off-hand weapons, albeit with the -2 penalty.

The base feat in the tree. This limits the benefits to double and light weapons in the off-hand. Use anything else, normal rules apply.

Improved Dual-Wielding
Prerequisites: BAB +6, Dual-Wielding feat
Special: Counts as Improved Two-Weapon Fighting feat for prerequisites.
As dual wielding, but when you take the full-attack action you may make your full iterative attack routine with the opposite end of a double weapon or an off-hand weapon. If you do, all attacks you make until the start of your next turn suffer a -2 penalty.
Additionally, you can now dual-wield any 1-handed weapon in your off-hand, not just light weapons.

For example, if you have a BAB of +11 you get a main hand and off-hand (end) attacks at +11, then another main and another off-hand at +6, then a third main and third off-hand at +1, however all 6 attacks would get a -2 penalty.

Dual-Wielding Master
Prerequisites: BAB +11, Improved Dual-Wielding feat
Special: Counts as Greater Two-Weapon Fighting feat for prerequisites.
You no longer take penalties when two-weapon fighting, and you add the damage of each pair of attacks (at each BAB iterative) together before applying damage reduction of creatures you hit.

Still not sure about this as a capstone feat, as a big issue with TWF was the minimum of 3 feat investment vs Power attack's one or charger's two. The idea here is you add your main and offhand +11 damage together, then apply DR > repeat for +6 iteratives > repeat for +1 iteratives.

I'm also thinking of making these feats compatible with light crossbows and 1-handed firearms

Precise Strikes
You may use your dexterity modifier in place of your strength modifier for attack and damage rolls you make with unarmed strikes, light melee weapons, light flails, longswords, rapiers, whips, scimitars, and spiked chains. This can be used with power attack feat, but it may never provide more than a one-to-one tradeoff for attack and damage.
This feat counts as weapon finesse for meeting prerequisites.

Probably should have been posted in the homebrew forum.

But my reaction is: Meh.
Still basically fixes none of the (admittedly realistic) issues with dual wielding. Though it's neat that you double your iterative attacks rather than just getting one more.

I'd much rather play with the Dual Wield sphere from Spheres of Might than mess with this short feat tree. Then again, that is a pretty high bar.
