View Full Version : help with spell list, sorta urgent

I’m starting up an oriental adventures game soon, so in preparation I’m familiarizing myself with the various oriental flavored (mmmm oriental flavoring) classes. When I looked at the Wu Jen spell list in complete arcane my heart sort of sank. Besides it being almost copied and pasted from the wizard/sorcerer spell list; I was expecting it to me way more element focused than it is.
So I’ve taken it upon myself to write out a whole new spell list for the class. However due to time constraints (rolling characters Saturday) I need help with coming up with a full spell list to replace the existing one. So naturally I’ve come to the good people here for such help. I need you to post spells (and preferably spell level) that would fit into one of these five elements: earth, fire, water, wood, and metal. I need up to at least 3rd level spells for now.
I have access to these books: PHB, PHB II, CAd, CAr ,CD,CW, SpC, OA, sandstorm, frostburn, stormwrack, and dungeonscape. Just list the spell name, level and which book it’s in.
Thanks in advance
TheThan.

Just Sandstorm is a good place to start. Even a quick glance through reveals the beginnings of a lot of potential material for an elemental caster.

There's a lot of "Sand" spells that are more deserty than earthy, but some of them would be fitting for someone focused on the earth. This list is done with no double checking or thorough examination, but it looks like a start at least?

Thanks for the help, after taking a look at sandstorm I really like some of the spells listed in the book, particularly haboob. I don’t mind the sand theme, as I view sand as part of earth.
Ok I’ve gone though most of my source books. I’ve picked quite a few interesting spells. Most fit my themes. They’re listed in the spoiler if you’re interested in taking a look. Feedback would be appreciated too.

I don't have any wind spells because the Shugenja uses wind spells, so I didn't want to tread on his shoes. besides they already share two elements as it is.

AIR
2nd level
- Freedom of breathNote that while this is one of the classic European elements, it's not one of the five Asian elements the OP was asking for. We still need Metal and Wood.
For Wood, you could probably pull some good stuff from the Druid list. For instance:
1: Detect Snares and Pits
Entangle
Shillelagh
2: Barkskin
Tree Shape
Warp Wood
Wood Shape
3: Diminish Plants
Plant Growth

6: Ironwood
Liveoak
Repel Wood

Transport Via Plants
7: Animate Plants
Changestaff
Transmute Metal to Wood
8: Control Plants
9: Shambler

Yeah I need wood, metal, fire, water and earth.
Fire, water and earth are easy to find but the other two are a little harder. Thanks for the wood spells, I needed them.

As for metal, there are a few metal spells in core. Wall of Iron, Heat Metal, and Chill Metal all come to mind. You could probably use all the Magic Weapon and similar spells to fall under metal as they focus on enchanting metal.
