View Full Version : [3.5] Looking For PrC

So, I'm probably out of luck, but was hoping someone might know something I've missed.

Are there any PrCs, preferably designed with martials/mundanes in mind, that expand senses?

A PrC that adds things like Darkvision, Blindsight, Mindsight, ability to see through magical darkness etc.

I know this can be achieved with items, spells and feats, but was looking for PrCs or base classes/dips that do this.

Official 3.5 sources preferred, but willing to look at Dragon/Dungeon material, and homebrew/PF as a last resort.

Cheers - T

One level of Dungeon Delver (Complete Adventurer) gets you Darkvision out to 60 feet (if you already have it, you expand your darkvision range by 30 feet). Another level grants you Stonecunning (same as dwarf racial ability, improves it if you already have it).

Dark Hunter (Complete Warrior) offers the same benefits, but in inverse order.

Darkrunner (Lords of Madness) grants Direction Sense at first level (basically, pick a spot and study it for 8 hours, you always know the most direct and shortest route to that point. Only works underground), then gives you Darkvision at level 2, and it gets better as you level; lastly, you obtain Tremorsense out to 30 feet at level 4.

There might be other options, but those are the ones I'm familiar with.

EDIT: Oh, Shadowdancers get Darkvision too, at second level. And Telflammar Shadowlord (Unapproachable East) gets Shadowsight at first level, which lets them see through magical darkness. However, if you don't have the shadow-walker template, you need to either be able to shadow jump (which, afaik, is only available through Shadowdancer) or be able to cast dimension door as a spell or a SLA.

Cavelord (The Underdark) grants Darkvision 120 ft. and a competency bonus of +5 to Listen at 2nd level and Tremorsense 30 ft. at 7th level.

I do not know where the old official d20 adaption of World of Warcraft stands on your priority list, but the Demon Hunter (Alliance Player's Guide) replaces his normal eyes with magical Blindsight (at first 30 ft., later more), including the abilty to detect magic and recognize fiends in the same area. It would require a bit of adaption, of course.

Edit: The Hoardstealer gains additional darkvision over the course of its levels, and the Initiate of Draconic Mysteries (a monk prestige class) gets darkvision 60 ft and low-light vision on 3rd level. Both are from the Draconomicon.

If you're willing to include 3.0 material, the Silverstar is a PrC from Faiths and Pantheons that grants low-light vision at second level and True Seeing at fifth level.

Not sure if that's quite what you're looking for, might be a "sake of completeness" entry.

I know it's a base class, but Warlock does get many such abilities — but is this mundane ?
DFA is similar

There are many PrCs - I'm only going to list a few here.
Cavelord (Underdark) gets Darkvision and Tremorsense.
Cavestalker (Drow of the Underdark) is a very similar class to Cavelord.
Eldeen Ranger (Ebberon) can choose Darkvision

Horizon Walker can grant Tremorsense

Warblade 1 or Swordsage 1 - Hunter's Sense stance, grants Scent. Requires one other Tiger Claw maneuver to take.

Weretouched Master 3 - The other benefits at this level are so great a lot of people miss this one, but you also get always on Scent regardless of your heritage/shifter type. (This kind of renders Wildhunt Shifters redundant, but they're still the only ones who can take Wildhunt Elite for Blindsense).

Weretouched Master 2 or 4 - Kinda cheating here, but if you use the bonus Shifter feats you get at these levels for Extra Shifter Trait (wildhunt) you get Scent, Wildhunt Elite you get Blindsense 30ft, and/or Dreamsight Elite you get see invisibility. Only while shifting.

Dark Moon Disciple Monk 3 - Darkvision 60ft.

Planar Barbarian 3 - Portal Sense.

View the Spirit World Barbarian 5 - 1/day, darkvision 60ft and see invisibility.

Totem Manifestation (Eagle Totem) Barbarian 7 - Low-light vision.

Underdark Knight Paladin 5 - while underground, gain low-light vision if you didn't have it, darkvision 60ft if you did, and +30ft darkvision if you already had that.

Halfling Totemist 1 - low-light vision.

Planar Rogue 6 - Breach Sense.

Would the dragonborn (mind version) help? You explicitly mention PrC, but a template could do the job as well...

Ardent dilettante 4 gives sense link, a special permanent clairaudience/clairvoyance at will. At 5th level, you get scent, at 6th you get an illusion-piercing sense, and at 9th level, you get blindsense (albeit only out to 10 feet).

For anything 4th level or higher, you do need a little spellcasting, unfortunately, but only 1st level arcane or divine spells for 4th-6th. For 7th+ you need 1st arcane and divine.

Planar Handbook, page 54-58.

Can't think of a PrC but you're in luck since there's a base class: totemist. It's a soulmeld using class from Magic of Incarnum and a whole slew of melds that he can shape grant extraordinary senses.

If you've really just got to have it on a martial character, there's always the totem rager prestige class. Take barbarian and totemist and mix 'em together into an avatar of nature's fury. Takes 2 levels of totemist and some source of rage to qualify.

a quick search returned 56 possible PRCs that give darkvision somehow..^^

Here are a few (imho) mentionable:

Darkwood Stalker (Elf/Half-Elf; 4th 30ft darkvision; 7th 60ft)
Dawncaller (goliath bard without casting/ 1st: 30ft darkvision)
Disciple of the Eye (3rd low light + darkvision 120ft !)
Eye of Horus-re (2nd low light + darkvision 30ft)
Hoardstealer (1st darkvision 30ft)
Sun Soul Monk (2nd low light; 8th darkvision)
Vassal of Bahamut (2nd low light + darkvision 30ft)

edit: dipping warlock helps too. a single level can give you darkvision + either see invisible (See the Unseen) or seeing in magical darkness (Devil's Sight?).

edit: some racial paragon lvl give enhanced senses too. Might also be an option

For completeness, Scout gives you Blindsense, but 10 levels is kind of a lot.

Ebomnar Infiltrator givesyou darkvision and 5 foot blindsense at level 9.

Do detect abilities also count?
e.g.

Detect Evil (1st Paladin)
Detect Magic (2nd warlock)

Especially Detect Magic at will is often overlooked. But if you can spam it all day long it can be a good tool to annoy the DM^^.

And if you are looking for something odd:
Then there is the Shadow Sun Ninja. He first gets an ability to blind enemies. Later (5th lvl) he get the ability to close his eyes (blind himself) and gets a bonus against other blinded enemies instead of a penalty.

Geomancer can give some boosts (though requires double casting):
5th or 6th (Drift 3):
+4 spot in daylight
+4 spot in dusk and darkness
7th or 8th (Drift 4):
Scent
9th or 10th (Drift 5):
Tremorsense 30'
Blindsense 30'

For completeness and ease of access I will mention Ruathar. It grants low light vision and +2 to search, spot, and listen at 2nd level. I mention it mostly because the entry requirements are entirely fluff outside of what is essentially a requirement to be 6th level. You should qualify for this class's stat requirements literally by default. If you save an elf at some point, you should qualify for this class.

Gloomblade (Dragon #298) gets Tremorsense 30' at 2nd level, and it extends to 60' at 8th

For always-on Detect Magic: Knight of the Weave and Witchborn Binder both got it at the very 1st level

For sense-related checks:

-Listen-
Cavelord (Underdark) at 2nd level gets +4 competence
Tainted (Dragon #302) with Hellcat at 2nd level gets +4 competence

-Spot-
Eye of Lolth (Drow of the Underdark) adds class level as unnamed bonus to Spot checks; at 6th level, gets addition +2 insight on Spot checks (and Listen checks too)
Fleshwarper (Lords of Madness) at 2nd level can get +4 racial on Spot checks - with Secret of the Beholder
Horizon Walker (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/prestigeClasses/horizonWalker.htm) - +4 competence on Spot at the very 1st level (Terrain mastery: Plains)
Skylord (Book of Exalted Deeds) +4 insight on Spot at the very 1st level
Watch Detective (Masters of the Wild) +2 insight on Spot at the very 1st level

-Listen and Spot both-
Reachrunner (Races of Eberron) adds class level as unnamed bonus to the checks
Sensate (Dragon #287) at the very 1st level gets +5 competence on Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival; this bonus increases to +10 at 4th level, +15 - at 7th, and +20 - at 10th (like permanent Guidance of the Avatar :smallamused:) It's supernatural ability

Lists of stuff (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?454553) has categories for blindsight, blindsense, darkvision, low-light vision, scent and tremorsense, you might find a few in there.
