The naked sky was absent of any clouds, a stark contrast to the misty hills that surrounded this particular hellscape of land. The razor grass shifted in the wind as if it were underwater, and the currents of the hillsides eddies, trying to stream out to the vast sea and get lost in it's immutable depths.

The sky was almost blank, an often times frightening view for mortals who are so used to stars shining upon the firmament, but a comfort to those who lived under ground, a singular start pulsed from afar, a giant binary system, blinking in and out, casting an ethereal glow upon everything, the only light source in this realm of unknowing.

The wind howled like a mange beast looking for it's long lost mate stuck in the mire, a lonely, sodden howl, that ended in misery.

This was a blasted place, a spectator to a war that had started, and was still waging somewhere else in the dusky cosmos, and nothing had come back, it was barren and dead, like the skull of a carcass, discarded for it's usefulness.

Except until now.

Angels had taken root here, cursed beings of a dead god, stuck on their last lawful command, as if constructs in a logical loop, incapable of breaking their commands, or their inherent nature. For to grow, and to learn, is to change, which was beyond their doctrine for such, leaving them in a fugue like state, their deity and lord gone, they were remnants of a being who had shaped the cosmos, but now were repeating their steps causing furrows to dig into the metal ground of the hills, over and over, the same kata, over and over.

Yours was a mission of extermination, these Angels were deemed to be breaking too far out of their construction, it was forbidden by the 7 Council of Fair Peaks, and as such, your company was charged with the removal of these errant cosmic constructs.

As the wind shifted, the blades of grass scratched against you in defiance, the lead Angel turned it's floating head towards you, unblinking eyes boring holes as if it knew all of your secrets.

₩ⱧɎ Ⱨ₳VɆ ɎØɄ ₵Ø₥Ɇ? it speaks, directly into your minds.

The other angels stop, their hands, arms and feet paused mid kata, as if robots commanded to.

Granthar

"Hmm.." Granthar thinks long and hard. "Perhaps a mission of some mercy?" He offers cryptically.

Granthar waits to see if anyone else wanted to try and reason with the broken angel. He stared across the horizon and shuddered briefly at its alien-ness.

Not at all like home he thought.

Roughly how many are there?

Temreki's heart broke at the sight of these wretched, beautiful things. She had seen full angels in her youngest days: they were beings of wondrously alive fire. The ash-strewn creatures before her sparked no such awe, only pity for their eternal agony.

"Dear cousins," Temreki answered the angel wistfully, "why do you labor among dead things? Your god has regrettably perished. My condolences. But grasping to his last decree like this is like trying to catch hold of the wind. Your attachment brings only anguished futility to yourselves and others. Why torment the living with the dead?"

Mesic scratches idly at his head with a thumb while adding, "Perhaps you don't feel the weight of your burden or see any need to lay it down, but the ground beneath your feet begs you to reconsider."

The human doubted anything he had to say would sway a divine construct from what it saw as its mission, but it would be wrong not to make the attempt -- not to mention a violation of his own self-interest. He'd make not a single evil memory more of assaulting a creature that might instead be aided.

It's probably superfluous given Rumivah's own, but just for the record, I have my banner of the storm's eye active on display.

Never being a witness of a scene quite so odd, Hotar falters for a moment

"Master of diplomacy ..." Mesic pinches the bridge of his nose while shaking his head slightly. He also releases a surge of sorcerous power to defend himself, expecting a very quick escalation to violence.

Using divine companion to get +16 deflection AC and +16 resistance saving throws for 16 rounds. It's a swift action.

Granthar

Granthar winced slightly as Hotar gave his ultimatum.

"I think this is evitable." He sighs

Granthar steps away from the group slightly to give himself some room. He closes his eyes and suddenly transforms into a huge earth elemental. He moves threateningly towards the 'angel' that 'spoke'.

Surveying both her companions and the angels arrayed before them, Temreki nods her head at Granthar's words.

"A pity. But like all else, this too was destined to fall apart."

Temreki then shifts her footing while drawing her greatword, adopting a backward-leaning defensive stance as shadows swirl around her.

Temreki adopts the Child of Shadow ToB stance, which grants concealment when she moves 10+ ft.

The lead angel's head jerks backwards to regard the speakers in turn, shifting in erratic, single movements, as if it knew nothing of grace.

It's body turns to match it's impossible angle, as if a clockwork toy regaining it's normal form back after the head had been twisted too far.

The other angels slowly rise into the air, trailing wisps of white energy streaming them, they all bear incredibly long spears, polearms, halberds, guisarmes and glaives....or had they been wielding them the whole time? (a spot DC 35 will show they appeared from their hands as they slowly rose, growing longer as they did)

₩Ɇ ₳ⱤɆ ₮ⱧɆ 20 ₮Ⱨ₳₮ ₦ɆVɆⱤ ⱠłVɆĐ ฿Ʉ₮ ł₴ ĐɆ₳Đ the main angel speaks to you all again, inside your minds, this time there was a metallic screeching to it, as if someone was scraping a sword against a metallic shield, very slowly.

It bears it's arms wide suddenly, and a sphere of energy coalesces into being, growing steadily larger and larger until it blasts forward, encompassing everyone inside it in the blink of an eye.

In the same moment, each angel vanishes and appears near each of you, moving like a blur of steel, they attack you faster than you can blink.

Main angel is holding the sphere....

If you are hit by one angel 2 or more times, attempt a Fort DC 22 of be stunned for 1d6 rounds.

EDIT: added crit confirms and striked out nat 1's
Edit2: all angels are 15ft elevation

Granthar

Granthar reels as he is speared in the shoulder, brown colored ooze squirts across his chest. "Auuughr" he bellows unintelligibly. He balls up his huge stone fist and lashes out at the nearest 'angel'.

AC: 43
HP: 222 (+5 bleed)

Note: Granthar is immune to extra damage from crit hits as a heads up.

Granthar attacks the nearest angel with his 15 ft reach.

Hotar

Surrounded by the tree entities, Hotar only manages a single cry of pain before beig cut by the angels "Gahh, you #%&#$!". With his instincts kicking, he concentratres on the first image that comes to his mind: time slowing down. In the few seconds he bought himself Hotar takes a breath, refocus and start augmenting his body with his psyonic abilities.

Now in the shape and size of a Troll, Hotar mauls at the angels "I tried ta be NICE!"

Took 39 damage and 10 bleed from the two nat20s, then healed 1 hp from Temreki's persistent mass buffs. Immune to stun.

I want to Tumble over to the leader angel, assuming he's within 45'. If not, I'll try to join Hotar or Granthar to focus fire on their angels instead, rather than start in on mine. In any case, the Tumble check succeeds on a roll of 1.

I make one attack in the first round (no Pounce here!) and five in the second round. Again taking into account Temreki's spells:
[roll0] to hit for [roll1] magic lawful adamantine bludgeoning damage
Then in round 2:
[roll2] to hit for [roll3]
[roll4] to hit for [roll5]
[roll6] to hit for [roll7]
[roll8] to hit for [roll9]
[roll10] to hit for [roll11]

And as a swift action I'll activate Heart Of Earth's stoneskin effect. Seems like it may be useful here.

Mesic dodges and parries most of the three angels' blows but can't avoid everything -- two bloody wounds mar his body, though Temreki's blessing immediately goes to work healing the worst of it. He rolls through the air with his red-gold cloak fluttering to probe an angel's defenses against the martial arts.

Seeing the angels burst into new action after millennia of repetitive toil brings wonder to Temreki. Husks they may be, these beings were still glorious to witness. As she flies upward toward the foe, Temreki mournfully murmurs to herself, "I am sorry."

After unleashing a barrage upon the nearest angel, Temreki shifts back into a defensive posture and gauges how they react to the various assaults of her party.

Temreki's 42 AC means she takes no hits from the angels.

Round One
Temreki uses Pouncing Charge (ToB, pg 88) and her fly speed to engage the nearest angel, giving her a full attack (-2 AC, +2 to-hit b/c charge; gains concealment from stance). Attacks are...

Attack ([roll0]), Damage ([roll1]) + ([roll2] if these angels counts as "living") + 10 (insightful strikes class feature)
Attack ([roll3]), Damage ([roll4]) + ([roll5] if these angels counts as "living") + 10 (insightful strikes class feature)
Attack ([roll6]), Damage ([roll7]) + ([roll8] if these angels counts as "living") + 10 (insightful strikes class feature)

Round Two
Temreki continues to full attack the angel from round one, now without the charge modifiers. Attacks are...

Attack ([roll9]), Damage ([roll10]) + ([roll11] if these angels counts as "living")
Attack ([roll12]), Damage ([roll13]) + ([roll14] if these angels counts as "living")
Attack ([roll15]), Damage ([roll16]) + ([roll17] if these angels counts as "living")

Having now seen, conversed with, and battled these angels, Temreki uses a free action to deduce what she can about the exact nature and weaknesses of these beings: Knowledge(planes) ([roll18]). Given the amount of attacks these angels generate, she also switches her stance to Pearl of Black Doubt (+2 stacking Dodge AC until her next turn each time enemy misses her; +2 saves from defensive stance swordsage class feature)
