View Full Version : Is/Was there a class that used Intelligence for Attack Rolls?

Hey there, simple question.

I have in my memory a vague recollection of a class, or archetype of a class, that used Intelligence for attack and damage rolls with a weapon.

Am I imagining things? Am I thinking of something else?

I at first thought it was the Bladesinger gaining it during their Bladesong, but I was wrong. They don't gain anything like that during their Bladesong. Only at 14th level are they able to add it to their Damage Rolls with a weapon, but not To Hit.

So, is there a class out there, or was there in a possible UA that allowed the use of Intelligence as their modifier to hit and to damage on weapons? Thanks.

Battle Smith Artificer gets it flat out at level 3, but only with magic weapons. Easy enough since it's an Artificer.

Bladesinger gets Int to Damage at I want to say level 14?

Artificer. Battlesmith and Armorer both get that feature at level 3.

Ah, it was the Artificer then that I must've been thinking on.

I kinda wish it was the Bladesinger that gained it during their Bladesong. That would be neat (though strong), but oh well.

Yeah, you can't let the bladesinger fight as well as the fighter on every level.

Technicality for those reading along at home that don't have to books to check for themselves:

Battlesmith: it only applies to magic weapons (as Pixel_Kitsune has already covered)

Armorer: is only for the special weapon features that are part of their Armor Model. Thunder Gauntlets for melee oriented Guardian, and Lightning Launcher for the range oriented Infiltrator.

It's not as awesome as it sounds, since Dex also adds to AC. The only Bladesinger builds I've seen not whoring into Dex for the obnoxious AC are based on tortles.

Eh, even, then, Bladesinger requires Light armor or less and one handed weapons.

We already have the Monk section of the PHB saying reflavor weapons anyway you want but use X stat block.

I had a BladeSinger that wielded a "2 handed estoc" But mechanically it was a one handed rapier.

You didn't specify which edition, so I thought I'd just mention the Swashbuckler from 3.5 Complete Warrior gaining Insightful Strike at 3rd level, which allows them to add INT bonus to damage rolls with a finesse weapon. That's the first thing that came to my mind.
