Hi everyone.
I'm playing a wizard focussed on save or die/suck spells, with pretty high optimization build ( plan is to go wizard 5 incantatrix 10 high incantatrix 5).
As I said, I decided to focus on save or die spells, and now I need to decide which school I want to take spell focus for: the options are either necromancy or transmutation.
Which could be better?
I'd love necromancy for wail of the banshee of course, and maybe magic jar, but I don't know other spells that could be fitting for a save or die wizard (if you know any other, please tell me);
while, on the other hand, transmutation school is filled with powerful save or dies or save or sucks, but I think it kinda lacks of AoE damage provided by wail of the banshee.

What do you think?

What level are you starting at?

Also, where is High Incantatrix from?

High Incantatrix is a homebrew class, has your DM explicitly allowed it?

As a Wizard, you likely don't want to focus on damage. Everyone else in your party can do damage, you are the one that can reshape the battlefield and end the encounter outright.

Transmutation and Conjuration are considered the best schools because there is always a spell you want to memorize of every level from those schools. Usually, you want to ban Enchantment and Evocation. Banning a third school for Incantatrix is a little harder. You can go for an Elven Generalist or a Domain Wizard and then only ban one school.

What level are you starting at and what is the rest of your party?

Targeting multiple opponents with Transmutation spells is commonly done via Chain Spell (available via a Metamagic Rod).

If you decide to go Necromancy, I'd suggest looking into the Mother Cyst feat.

Transmutation is more appealing to me personally since it's a more adaptable school. Just an example, Disintegrate works on living creatures, undead creatures, and objects.

Since a lot of the necromancy effects can be shut down by a 4th level spell (death ward), I would go for transmutation.

If you haven't started the game yet, how about the changeling double-specialist sub-levels? Double-specialize in illusion and transmutation, then take necromancy as a side-gig. Necromancy is really easy to shut down, and it's often best used to make minions outside of combat via animate dead etc. Then you could take a few levels in master specialist and double the benefits from it. Extra illusions could help you disguise your undead so they're less likely to get ganked with things that target undead.
