Different climb speeds between dire ape and normal ape?

Why does a Dire ape have only a 15 climb speed while a regular ape has a 30 climb speed? Is it a typo for one of them?

Well, they're 3x as heavy and not much stronger.

Legendary Ape (Monster Manual II) have climb speed 20' - despite being Medium-sized, and Str 30
