Craft Construct [Item Creation]
Prerequisites
Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wondrous Item.
Benefit
A creature with this feat can create any construct whose prerequisites it meets. Enchanting a construct takes one day for each 1,000 gp in its market price. To enchant a construct, a spellcaster must spend 1/25 the item’s price in XP and use up raw materials costing half of this price (see individual construct monster entries for details).
A creature with this feat can repair constructs that have taken damage. In one day of work, the creature can repair up to 20 points of damage by expending 50 gp per point of damage repaired.
A newly created construct has average hit points for its Hit Dice.

1) Do you still need the Golem Manuals AND this feat? I'd say yes. It seems kinda pointless to have the books if you can JUST use the feat alone.
2) Why does a newly created construct only have average hit points for it's HD? What's the point of even saying it can have more? Can you "heal" it or something? Is it damaged?

The manuals bypass the need for the feat, and provide some (but not all) of the creation cost. Specifically, they do not provide the materials for the body.

You don't need the feat and the manual. Either one alone works if you want to craft a golem. Having the manual gives other advantages (notably a decrease in the XP cost), but can't be used to craft anything other than a golem.

A newly created construct has average HP. That only means you don't have to roll the d10 to know how many HP it has, you just take the average. It is not damaged, and healing it will not give it more HP than what it already has when created.

1. No, the golem manual is for characters that lack the feat Craft Construct, lack any of the spells to craft the respective golem or both. The manual acts as a spell trigger item but only for the purpose of crafting the golem.

2. Each golem has a certain amount of hit dice. You determine it's starting hp by averaging the amount from it's given hit dice. And as golems are immune to most magic, the only way to repair them is by using craft checks.

Each Golem Manual is an one-time use object that allows you to build a golem without knowing the right spells and feat. They are there for people who want to build a golem, but don't want to invest into the feat.
Otherwise that would be horribly unfair. I mean, first you need the feat, then you need to craft an expensive magic item before you can even start building the golem?

No, it's not damaged. :smallconfused: They are talking about the construct's maximum hit points. Just like every other creature in the Monster Manual, a character built construct doesn't roll every single hit dice to see what its maximum hit points are (like PCs do), but instead automatically gets the average result. Cuts down on rolling a lot.

The repair spells from Eberron were made to heal Constructs.

And if you can find a way to give it fast healing that works too.

Casting the Greater Humanoid Essence spell will change the Golem from a Constuct into a humanoid for the duration, allowing you to heal it normally.

I had always assumed that something like a construct would have max HP if built properly. Guess not :)

The Manual of Golems is a carry over from earlier editions when Craft Construct didn't exist.
