View Full Version : Anyone have a functional link to WotC's original System Reference Document?

Note: I'm very, very, VERY familiar with d20SRD.org (https://www.d20srd.org/). I'm asking about something a little different: the original actual System Reference Document put out there by WotC.

The website (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srdarchive) still exists, but when you get to the page (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) that allegedly has the links to the actual documents, those links are no good. I tried changing the "www" in the url to "archive" since that usually works for the old Mind's Eye articles and such, but that didn't do the trick.

Does anyone have another trick to try and/or have another working link to the actual original SRD files?

UPDATE: Found it myself, but if anyone ever happens to need it, I just used the trusty old Wayback Machine (https://web.archive.org/web/20160328013113/http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/SRD.zip)! (This link is to an archived version of the .zip file, so if you click it you'll be downloading a .zip with a bunch of .rtf files in it.)

Out of curiosity, why were you looking for that version?

I'm not Zaq but I know that there are definitely errors in the d20srd version. The chart for epic use of perform to influence onlookers is wrong, for instance; it uses the epic diplomacy numbers, when epic perform DCs are actually 10-15 points higher than diplomacy. Always good to have a copy of the original to double check things when necessary.

That error is actually carried over from an error in the official SRD!

Ha, I should have guessed. I thought I remembered seeing somewhere other than the ELH that had it correct, but maybe it was from a site that went rogue and fixed it.

I was comparing XPH’s illithid slayer to the generic slayer in the SRD, and I wanted to make sure that the easing of the restrictions actually came straight from WotC rather than being a result of any editing on the part of d20srd.org. Figured there was no better way to see than by going to the source!

Yeah, that was because "Illithids" are IP of WotC that they specifically did not share out, so the Slayer had to become something other than an Illithid Slayer in the OGL-available materials. Making it general is a boost in power that makes it more usable, as a side benefit.
