Long time no see, Playground!

Have a question for ya. Knocking around in the back of my head is one of the reasons I ban hummingbirds from my campaigns. It's a template that increases the size of a creature by 4 stages, and when applied to a hummingbird makes it a deadly warmount for a pixie with a specially enchanted lance. I think the template started with a G and had a very long name. Anyone got the name of this template?

Gargantua (http://www.pandius.com/gargntua.html) makes creature x4 bigger, but it count as only +2 size categories

Titanic Creature?

That's the only official one I know of, barring anything from Dragon or Dungeon mag, or from a Dragonlance or Kalamar splat book.

Can be added to any Medium or smaller animal, and make's it Gargantuan.

If you threw Dungeonbred on there as well, the end result would be Huge instead.

There is also the Half-Ogre and Half-Minotaur templates which add one size category up to Large in Dragon #313.

Variant Half fiend also increases your size by one category. http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060630a

So awakened half minotaur half ogre, half Goristro hummingbird would give you three size categories.

edit: how exactly that happened, I will leave to your nightmares.

Some more templates:
Anthropomorphic Animal (Savage Species) would bump size to Small
Proto-Creature (Bestiary of Krynn, Revised) bumps Diminutive size to Small
Ogre Titan (Price of Courage) +1 size //doesn't required to be an actual Ogre - just have some Ogre blood. Ogre Bloodline (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/bloodlines.htm) :smallwink:
Mountain Creature (Faces of the Forgotten North) +1 size for creatures smaller than Colossal

Hm, none of those sound like it. The name was a real letter salad. I think it started with a G, and there was at least one B in there too. One word.

One word?

Letter salad?

Kaiju (Dragon #289)?

It bumps size to Colossal, and works on anything smaller than Gargantuan (base template presumes Animal, Magical Beast, or Vermin - but sidebar gives variants for the rest of the types)

Are you maybe thinking of Jotunbrud? J not G; and it's a feat that gives you Powerful Build (size-related, though not size-altering).

Here's the G-templates I'm aware of:

Ghost
Ghost Brute
God-Blooded Creature
Gravetouched Ghoul
Gravewright
Greenbound Creature
Guardian Monster

One word, word-salad templates:

Faerzress-Infused (not really one word)
Pennaggolan
Xorvintaal

...I'm starting to think this may have been Pathfinder, or 3rd party maybe?

It doesn't start with a G, but maybe Brobdingnagian from the Immortals Handbook? Something of a letter salad, contains a B, one word, and increases the creature's size by 4 Categories.

YES, THIS. THANK YOU. Oh my god this has been scratching at the back of my mind for almost a week.

Just FYI, as with many 3rd party products, Immortals Handbook is generally considered to be utterly broken and poorly edited in places. Use at your own risk.

Not a 3,5 template, but Pathfinder has the Gigantean Creature: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/gigantean-creature-cr-varies/

It increases size by 4 categories as well.

Just FYI, as with many 3rd party WoTC products, Immortals Handbook D&D is generally considered to be utterly broken and poorly edited in places. Use at your own risk.

Yes yes, point taken. I know this is the standard reply to criticism of 3rd party content. :smalltongue:

But lets be honest, the innate issues that exist in WotC products are often amplified when it is 3rd party. Most 3rd party developers don't have the resources or editing oversight that WotC do. Also, 3rd party releases rarely get errata: at least WotC sometimes tried to fix issues after release.

I found the article with the hummingbird mount by googling "Brobdignagian template". It says it's just the Dire template x4. That's far from crazy.
