View Full Version : Any non-Gestalt way to combine Cloud Anchorite 10 with 9s in only 20 levels?

Mostly idle idea/question: getting specifically the Cloud Anchorite level 10 immortality capstone and some variety of level 9 or equivalent abilities (spells, psionics, dark invocations, maneuvers...) onto a character with no more than 20 HD without using Gestalt? How close can we get, and what is the least cheesy way of getting there?

Casting class and full-casting PrC 17 / illithid savant 3. Eat a cloud anchorite.

Well as a somewhat cheesy baseline:

Neutral Evil
Savage Bard 1/Were-Fleshraker 4/Ur Priest 9/Cloud Anchorite 10

Cast remove curse to get rid of Were-Fleshraker once Ur Priest Self Qualifies. Can probably be improved by some Divine Prestige classes

Hatchling Phaerimm, get Sorcerer casting equal to your HD, take levels in whatever you want.

Can probably be improved by some Divine Prestige classesYou can also use the non-stupid version of the curse of lycanthropy spell to give you those were-critter levels, which can be dispelled later. Less chance of getting eaten that way.

[edit] Ardent shenanigans can get you ML 17 at level 17, even if you only have a few levels in it. For instance, X 15 / ardent 2 with Supernatural Transformation (Psionics) will give you 9ths at level 17. (Ardent 1 only ever gives you 1st level powers, but 2nd+ is based on your ML.)

In addition to what I mentioned above (where you grab the cloud anchorite capstone), try illithid savant 3 to grab 9th level powers, spells, maneuvers, etc. You can use additional levels in illithid savant to grab cloud anchorite's capstone, as well, or even multiple 9ths of varying types. You can also get immortality that doesn't instagib you in an antimagic field or dead magic zone.

Not Anchorite related, but if you are after biological immortality, the Silithar (LoM p.168) has Immortality as an Ex ability. Maybe you could use some kind of PAO shenanigans?

Are there other ways to rip an Ex ability from a monster and take it for yourself? I think Ability Rip only works with SU abilities, from memory.

The Gray Portait artifact (CoR) also offers a form of immortality, but obviously artifacts aren't easy to come by.

I'm assuming the OP doesn't want to be an Undead or Construct to achieve immortality, but there are other options, like Kiloren, Elan or Warforged (living construct).

There are lots of ways to get immortality.

And many, many, many more.

In regards to maneuvers, it all depends on how you rule that PrCs advance IL.

According to ToB:

Prestige classes work a little differently. In most cases, you add the full prestige class level to your martial adept level to determine your initiator level.

Most of the prestige classes presented in this chapter offer some amount of continuing progression to a character’s existing maneuvers known and maneuvers readied.

...however, and Ask Wizards reply made it clear that unless a PrC specifices otherwise, it only adds 1/2 levels to IL: http://rpg.nobl.ca/archive.php?x=dnd/ask/20060918a

Prestige classes are generally treated just like multiclassing, adding 1/2 the level (unless the prestige class specifically states otherwise), as do most of the prestige classes found in Tome of Battle.

IF your DM rules that all PrCs that don't specify otherwise add full level to IL, then it's realtively easy to get 10 levels in Cloud Anchorite, and still get 9th level maneuvers.

I wonder if you can get there using bloodlines (greater) (on the interpretation that you take them all early) and then get the practiced manifester feat? Would Ardent 6/Cloud Anchorite 10/Ardent 4 with a Greater Bloodline be level 23 or 20?

Variant of the were-solution, you can qualify for any of Cloud Anchorite/Ur Priest through a monstruous race with RHD, reincarnate into human/any 0RHD/0LA race and take the other class to 10.

If you want ur priest first, you'll need 6 dragon RHD for the saves (strong Fort + strong Will). (RHD + prestige monk isn't very good at any level...)

Find a cloud anchorite character of C.A. level 10. Manifest fusion on it, followed by astral seed. Now, when you die, you come back fusioned. Although you're still better off fusioning with an elan or something. It's like gestalt, but better in a lot of ways, and it's doable in a non-gestalt game. Or you could just stay fusioned in a timeless-with-respect-to-magic plane and hope you're never dispelled, or carry an acorn from such a plane affected by the acorn of far travel spell. Of course, you'd want to astral projection out of the plane so you can't be dispelled.

If we just want Immortality and it doesn't specifically have to be Cloud Anchorite, I'd go...

Fighter 1/Full BAB 6 (Any)/Beloved of Valarian 1/Divine Crusader 10
Feats:
1: Sacred Vow
F1: Weapon Focus
3: Vow of Chastity
6: Mounted Combat

Immortality at 8th level from Beloved of Valarian, 9th-level divine spells from one domain of your choice by 18th level. Take feats like "Extra Spell" to give you a few more medium and high-level options. No restrictions on race, etc, and you can pick whatever class you want for your other six levels that's full BAB

You could rule that the capstone immortality is a one and done. Meaning that it functions like an instantaneous effect. Lose 10 levels and then level how you want.

Phaerimm race gets full Sor casting progression based on hit dice that stacks with class levels.
