View Full Version : DM Help Items for a steampunk NPC

In the campaign I'm DMing, two characters come from a city with steampunk inventions and minor magic items making life easier. The party isn't headed to the city for awhile now, but will soon be meeting with several spies working for the ruling nobles of the city, taking down assassins and rogue mages and the like. I've never read any steampunk literature, and am wondering what items they might be equiped with, and any suggestions as to how I might familiarise myself with the genre.

Rocket powered boots

Rocket powered hammer

Hammer with static electricity

Horseless Carriages

Scoped crossbow

Steampowered golem/constructs

Muskets and similar appropriate firearms (don't use missfire rules, they absolutely suck)

You should also look at the Eberron setting, it's not steampunk, it's more like magi-tech punk. BUT many of the magical inventions could be re-fluffed to be appropriate for steampunk.

For example:
Magic glowing crystals -> electric lamps

Sending stones -> Telegraph

Electric rails -> steampowered trains

Elemental powered airships -> Zeppelins or hot air balloons
