If I use the major evocation esoterica on a twinned spell, what happens?

From Complete Mage Page 71:

Any creature that fails its save against one of your evocation spells takes damage again 1 round later equal to half the damage it took when you cast the spell.

-------------
That seems pretty clear. IMO there was an opportunity cost in game to pursue Master Specialist through 10 levels to get that capstone ability at level 10 in the PRC. It was open to any spellcaster wizard willing to play an Evoker 3+ (the standard default entry level without Precocious Apprentice feat) with Master Specialist - 10.

It's clear in and of itself, but it's the "twinned" part that's throwing me for a loop. Do I have to choose one of the twinned spells to trigger it on, or does it automatically affect both? Can I effectively double the benefit of the esoterica by using the twinned modifier?

It mostly depends on the spell. Lets say it is a normal level 3 lightning bolt before being twinned (+4 meta) which fills a level 7 spell slot for a level 14 wizard.

Lightning bolt has a maximum damage limit of 10D6 and an average 10D6 lightning bolt will do 35 points of damage without a successful Reflex save for half damage. For this example I'm going to increase the damage to 36 points.

You cast your twinned lightning bolt at a target who makes 2 saves 1 sucessfull and 1 unsucessful:

In the first round the target takes 36 + 18 points of damage after saves for 54 points of damage.

One round later by RAW:

Any creature that fails its save against one of your evocation spells takes damage again 1 round later equal to half the damage it took when you cast the spell.

In the second round the target takes half the damage it took in the first round when it took 54 hit points in damage so the target should take an additonal 27 hit points in damage.

If the target had made both saves in the first round it would only have taken 18 + 18 = 36 points of damage and would take no damage in the second round.

If the target failed both saves in the first round it would take 36 + 36 = 72 points in damage in the first round and would take 36 points in damage in the second round.
