In 3.5 and pathfinder, I don't know of any spells which take multiple spells slots to prepare. Every spell is one, concrete effect which isn't intended to combo off other spells in any real way. Even spells such as polymorph object which is frequently cheesed via multi casting really isn't supposed to work that way

Are there any examples of genuine multi slot spells or combo effects? If it would be something new, does anyone have any ideas for how it would work or be balenced?

There's stuff like the CM Heart line and the DrM Primal line of spells, where they have bonus effects when specific other spells are also active, is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

There is true strike which really leads well into ray attacks.

Some illusion spells combo well together. Illusionary terrain to create a fake gorge with an illusion to make a fake bridge to funnel your enemies.

Isn't there a double cast spell too?

In Pathfinder, specialist Wizards who want to prepare spells from their "forbidden schools" must use multiple slots to do so.

The specific line of thought that led to this question was player in my campaign being an outsider and asking if becoming a normal humanoid was possible.

My *fun* solution would be to simulate the process of an outsider being recycled via breaking them down with chaos magic, nurturing them with positive energy, and then taking that synthetic soul and putting it in a body.

My boring answer was just to clone them and kill them, but we aren't nearly high enough level for that to work.

Context, the regular lifecycle is:
mortal/material plane resident->dies->goes to the boneyard->gets judged and sent to plane->maybe gets planar stuff added to soul and becomes outsider->dies or otherwise unsubstantiates->either melds with plane or possibly skips to next step->gets corroded by the maelstrom->gets cleansed/unaligned by the antipode->sent to positive energy plane and grown like a fruit on a tree->gets sent to portal that goes through first world to the material plane

With the multi spell process being to 1) corrode with chaos magic 2) somehow preserve psyche, perhaps by not going all the way with chaos magic 3) blast with positive energy 4) put in new body you found somewhere.

Though an existing multi spell process similar would be the dimensional anchor+magic circle+planar binding. Like each spell is achieving a concrete thing, not just amping up another spell.

Double casting Familiar Form would give you a new body. Not many are typically playable, but Muckdweller comes to mind.

Also, Elemental Familiar would make you no longer an outsider and viable to be put in a construct and Incarnated.

Reincarnation can work too.

Is that character a (Native) Outsider (Aasimar, Tiefling, etc.) or a full-fledged Outsider? Native Outsiders can be reincarnated and become a humanoid/another type of native outsider depending on which reincarnation table you use.

It sounds to me like a Ritual or Incantation would be your best bet for this kind of plot magic. 3e Savage Species/Unearthed Arcana as well as PF Occult Adventures all have rules to help you design this sort of thing. You can even make secondary casters or contributing spell slots be a requirement if need be.

The Heart of <Element> spells in 3.5 combo together. Cast two of the four and you get light fortification and some bonuses, cast all four together, and you get crit immunity.
