So this came up within my game group recently where I half remembered the Enlarge spell metamagic feat specifically allowing it to increase the range of spells like Color Spray and other fixed ranged spells but when checking on SRD it explicitly does not. I do a bit of digging because I was fairly confident that I wasn't imagining the whole thing and find other people recommending it as well and the Enlarge Spell metamagic feat text displayed on Realmshelp is different than that of the d20srd. Was this a change from 3.0 -> 3.5 that I never realized or did it get errata'd somewhere else?

Or was this somehow an error that propagated through the internet and forum advice somehow? Mostly just curious at this point as its not an issue for the campaign but still.

You're thinking of widen spell

It was different in 3.0. The text was:

Enlarge Spell [Metamagic]
Benefit: An enlarged spell has its range doubled. Spells whose ranges are not defined by distance do not have their ranges increased. A spell whose area or effect is determined by its range has the dimensions of its area or effect increased proportionally. An enlarged spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level.

The 3.0 SRD is available here (http://www.dragon.ee/30srd/).

That honestly seems better balanced. Widen is 99% of the time overpriced - sure, it's good when you're facing large groups of foes in a large area, which is pretty rare IME. Operating indoors, it's often more of a downside than an upside. Niche, but useful when the niche applies, sounds about right for +1.

Ah thank you, that must be it.
