Hi Folks,

Currently looking at taking a flavour dip into a wizard archetype - Clocksmith. However, the rules for the associated familiar have myself and the GM in discussion.

Clocksmith states that you must take a familiar as your arcane bond, and this must be of the construct type and clockwork subtype. This creates a few rules conflicts with familiars in skills, saving throws, BAB, hit dice, and more.

The normal response is that specific (clockwork) trumps general (familiar), but that changes a familiar into a mindless automaton that can do very little. Granted, one with lots of immunities but very little of the essence of a familiar.

Looking for advice on how to manage the complexity here.
Has anyone ran a clocksmith, looked into how this works, or managed this type of rules conflict?
