You find yourself plane-shifted back to the Citadel of Drezen, a dwarven-built fortress overlooking the town of Drezen on the northern border of Sarkoris. It takes a moment to regain your bearings, but you realize that you are in the chapel, formerly dedicated to Torag, a dwarven god, since defiled by demons and now reclaimed in the name of Iomedae, goddess of righteous valor, justice and honor.
A huge statue of the goddess stands at the forefront of this small chapel, flanked by twin tapestries depicting her Ten Acts. Several rows of benches extend back from the dais on which the statue is mounted. A final, larger tapestry covers the back of the chamber, apparently illustrating and commemorating the construction of Citadel Drezen and its stand against demonkind. It is quite a change from the last time you were in the room, when all of the room's original dwarven decorations were torn, smashed, scratched, and otherwise befouled by the demon occupiers, the occupiers you previously helped drive from this area.

There is a lone figure in plate armor kneeling in front of the statue, apparently in prayer. A scabbarded longsword, helm with visor and a steel kite shield lay on the ground next to them. From the back, you cannot see their face, but long blonde hair flows down nearly to their waist.

Duadin dropped to his knees with a great clang of steel. His armour still bearing the splatters of demonic ichor and blood stained rents wrought by their claws. He felt exhausted to his core by the titanic battle they had just won in the depths of he Ivory Labrynth over the Lord of Minotaurs. He breathed a greats sigh of relief, "Oh Great Torag, Lord of the Forge thanks for your blessing this day."

He cast his eyes over his equally bloodied companions and slowly rose to his feet, the last of his divine powers flowing out to knit torn flesh and broken bone back together. "We are victorious my friends. I had thought we would die in such a place but the Gods have smiled on us and carried with us her blessing..." he says the last looking at Iomedae's herald they have freed.

The armour clanks and the hammer sways heavily as he rises and approaches the kneeling woman. "Your grace?" he ventures wondering if this would be the queen.

Akhmet slumps slightly to one side, still feeling the lingering damage from his wounds in the battle. He approaches the kneeling figure and kneels beside them. He remains silent, but offers prayers of thanks for the success of their mission so far. He listens keenly for any words his companions offer, wanting to know what is going on, but too reverential to be prepared to speak up himself.

He can feel the power of his goddess flowing through him. He draws his blade and holds it before him, praying over the crossed hilt. He can feel goodness coming from the being beside him, and recognises them as being even mightier in Iomedae's service than he himself.

Lindon makes a grunt as he appears on unsteady legs. He is able to avoid falling to his knees as some of his companions, remaining standing as he recovers. As Duadin opens up to the armored man in prayer, he does not interrupt the cleric instead shifting to the back of the group with shadowy movements.

Tragmok swayed back and forth, mouth frowning and eyes unfocused. As always, returning from the Abyss left her both relieved and disoriented. She resisted the urge to summon her rage to quell her discomfort--gods knew she'd used enough of it today.

As her vision began to clear up, Tragmok brought down the butt of her polearm so she could use it to support her weight. She stayed standing, though, even when she noticed her comrades kneeling to the woman in armor. After all she'd done, she figured she could escape that particular obligation.

The plate-armored figure rises from her knees and turns towards you. It is indeed Queen Galfrey. She turns her steely blue gaze upon each member of your party, noting with approval the damage and dirt to your bodies and possessions. Before she can speak, you hear a low humming sound and a golden light fills the chamber. The Herald of Iomedae, also known as the Hand of the Inheritor, is a massive golden angel, wearing armor made of sunlight and surrounded by a halo of spinning golden blades. It floats above your heads. A pulse of yellow light issues from its form and washes over the party members. Each PC is affected as if by a 20th level Mass Heal.

The power of the angel's healing sends him to his knees as he looks up at the herlad. "Aye. Forge be praised we saved you from the Ivory Hell." Rising wobbly to his feet he offers the queen and the floating angel a low (very low with him being a dwarf) bow. "Your Grace. We have done as you asked, we have driven Baphomet back into the void from whence he came and rescued the Herald of blessed Iomedae."

He looks at the rest of his party, now, like him free of rents and and injury he nods. "We stand ready once more your Grace. The enemy does not rest and I will gladly go back to do battle with them once more. Merely instruct me as to where I can best serve and my hammer is yours"

He looks back at the rest of his companions nodding to them, "You'll all be coming aye? I don't fancy it alone..." he adds the last with a grin and a chuckle to show he's joking.

Tragmok tries not to let the awe show on her face as she directs as many of her eyes as possible towards the Herald. She allows herself a grateful nod as the angel's light closes her wounds, relieving her of pain and fatigue.

Her mouth quirks downwards at Duadin's assumption, but she nods. "Depends on the mission, comrade. Of course, I'm hardly ready to give up the fight, either."

As light washes over him, the robed man looks as his visible scrapes knit back to their unblemished state before battle, his hung head draws back straight to look at the notable figure the party rescued. Lindon bows to the herald. The words of the dwarven warpriest causes him to turn to his companion with another nod.

"We must close the Worldwound."

The voice is hoarse from overused at the same time full of life.

Akhmet feels relief course through him as the healing power flows through him. He bows even lower in obeisance to the Herald, and murmurs a prayer to Iomedae. Surely her blessings must be upon them for her to send the Herald to assist and guide them.

The Herald nods to Lindon and acknowledges the question hanging in the air: “You have yet greater deeds to accomplish before you may rest. However, for rescuing me from the Abyss and restoring my divine essence, Iomedae will grant you each a blessing of your choosing.”

Akhmet rises to his feet as the Herald addresses the party. "I will opt for future divine intervention, Holy One. I will call upon Iomedae for a favour greater than that of the spells with which she already blesses me daily," he says humbly, offering a deep bow.

The dwarf blinks back the tears as he gazes upon the true magnificence of the herald before coughing to clear his throat and offering a salute. "Glorious one. I thank you fer the kind gift. When we journey back into the heart of Abyss just keep an ear out lest I call out your name, though I shall do so only in the most dire of circumstance"

Looking at the Queen and the herald he asks rather more brusquely. "With the blessing from her holyness I stand ready now. Send me back in to face the demons and do what must be done." He grins grimly at Akhmet sensing a similar resolve in his comrades.

The Herald looks at Galfrey and an unspoken understanding passes between them. With a flash of golden light, the angel disappears.
Queen Galfrey smiles warmly at the party. "You have done the Crusade a great service. There are greater deeds yet to be done but for now you deserve some much needed rest. And... (sniffs) a much needed bath."
She claps her hands and servants in the royal livery enter the chapel to attend to your needs.

Gracediana stretches, her body aching all over from the fights in the abyss. She was relieved they were safe now to relax.

"Aye, I choose Divine Intervention, ma'am, while I don't know what I'll need now, I know I'll need something in the future."

Gracediana says as she kneels in thanks. Her Eidolon wagging his tail beside her.

Akhmet feels a sense of sorry and loss as the Herald departs, but an overwhelming sense of gratitude at the same time, which he thinks likely comes from Iomedae herself. At the Queen's words, Akhmet feels shame and embarrassment take over from the warm feelings. He feels every speck of dirt and drop of blood that covered him, and the desire for cleanliness washes over him. "Your Majesty is gracious. I apologise for besmirching your throne room with our grime, though I am sure you understand our reasons for it. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to bathe before we return to your presence for our next task," he says to the Queen.

The servants escort you to your previous rooms in the Citadel of Drezen. They have been more luxuriously appointed since you last occupied them, with crude, hastily constructed furniture replacing the camp furniture that was there before. Mendevian rugs and tapestries displaying the Queen's coat of arms or the Crusade's great victories are scattered over the walls and floors, covering up the damage caused by the battle to retake the city.

Wooden tubs are wheeled in to your rooms and swiftly filled with water and heated with a simple cantrip by one of Galfrey's court magicians. The servants leave you to undress and bathe yourselves, returning only to collect your damaged and soiled clothing, to be either cleaned and repaired (by magic or by hand as necessary) or replaced.

A simple but hot meal of black bread, roast chicken and a cabbage and onion soup is laid out for you as well, along with fresh water and brown ale.

Akhmet stripped and sank gratefully into the tub of scalding hot water. He leant back and revelled in the heat as it spread through his body. He came from the hot lands, and had felt the cold too much to like it as much as he did the heat. He felt the warmth flow through his muscles, loosening them and relaxing him. He stayed that way for a long time, feeling that he had earned the brief break. He then rose and towelled himself off, finding his clothes to have been returned clean and dry, not to mention mended, and dressed himself. He sat at the table and broke off a piece of black bread, biting into it and chewing thoughtfully, as he tried to decide what task they would be given next. Especially if it were one that would require the Goddess's possible divine intervention. He then took a sip of water, before swapping it for the cool brown beer. He used that to wash down the rest of the food, enjoying every moment of the meal, and offering Iomedae a prayer of thankfulness.

Once he was done dining at leisure, he returned to the throne room, where he anticipated meeting up with his companions once more. He felt, and looked, like a new man. A credit to his goddess. And now it was time to return to battle, he was sure.

Duadin relaxes in the bath following the dismissal, the water the second one to have been drawn up after the filth from his body and beard had contaminated the first. His armour gleamed in the corner on the rest, the steel plates having been the first thing he had seen to although there were still dents and rents he would need a forge to attend to but he knew the Shrine to Torag was available from his last trip here.

Cleaned and in drag dark russet robes with thick fur trims he headed down to the dining hall, a horn of mead clutched in his fist. Seeing Akhmet he moved to join him, offering a low bow, “Welcome friend, it’s good to see you relaxed and rested now. I had not thought we would have all survived the Ivory Labyrinth. Only by her blessing and the that of the Forge Lord have we survived.”

Eating a chunk of bread he looks at the stained glass windows and the arms on the walls. “what if tomorrow, what do you think the Lady will have need of us to do next, certainly we will be back in battle once more and my hammer can ward you again.

Lindon smiles at the attendants as they walk with him to his refurbished room and takes his clothing san the shawls and wrappings around his face which are not dirtied. He waits until the servants left before he locks the door. The masked man unmasks himself, revealing a half-elf with Kele****e skin tone and short, black hair, and dips into the tub. As he submerges most of his body into the tub, Lindon takes his sweet time in pause as he scrubs the grime off his scar-laden body. Finishing his bath, he opens the chest and dons an identical set made for him. He does the same with his food and drinks, consuming them in a snail-paced manner. During his dining duration, he looks out the window. Halfway through his food, in a moment where no food in his mouth, his mouth moves.

"Kota..."

After a period of contemplation and dining, he rejoins the others in the throne room.

Akhmet returns Duadin's bow, keeping it informally slight. "A difficult question, my friend. It could be nearly anything, on this plane or another. But I strongly suspect that it will be unfortunately bloody, whatever it may prove to be," he says. He examines the banners on the walls. They speak of an ancient kingdom, great in glories both past and present.

You are interrupted by the entrance of Queen Galfrey into the throne room. She has traded in her plate armor for a blue tunic and red breeches, her long sword girt at her waist. She is attended by two guardsman, two ladies in waiting and one of her generals, a high-ranking half-orc cleric of Gorum, the god of battle, named Tomor. He’s dressed in full armor with a greatsword strapped to his back and glowers at you in an unfriendly manner, although that may be just his natural expression (*resting bitch face*).

“Thank you for attending me so soon after your return from the Abyss. I would that you rest further but we’ve had disturbing reports that your victory versus Baphomet has enraged the Locust Lord, Deskari himself. Our scouts have reported that masses of demons are gathering at the borders of Sarkoris. For now, the wardstones surrounding the borders are keeping them back, but as you know, they have a limited ability to destroy or damage the wardstones. If that happens in enough crucial places at once, the Fifth Crusade may end sooner than planned.” She gives a sad smile.

Akhmet considered this for a moment. "What would you have of us, Your Majesty? I assume you already have a plan for our use in this worked out. We can face down a number of demons, I am confident we have proved that already. But those surrounding an entire kingdom would prove too much for even us. Perhaps instead of fighting the demons surrounding the kingdom, we should go in search of their master, and destroy him, as we did Baphomet?" he suggests.

Duadin rises as the Queen enters and gives a low bow and a salute. He lets Akhmet speak before he nods. "As my fine companion has said we stand ready. I can stand in the army and fight with the men but we have shown a well placed surgical strike can be like a nail to the heart." He taps his waist where the hammer hangs ready. "I need only time to gather my war gear and I would stand ready once more."

Looking at Ahkmet and his other companions he asks, "To save us walking do any of you have transportation magic that can take us to their black heart and do waht must be done."

"I can teleport us to our location if it is familiar and specific."

Gracediana enjoyed her bath, she loved bathing her little friend too. He started to smell like wet dog for a while.

"My queen, we are happy to help in anyway we can achieve. I thank you for letting us rest and bath. So, where would we best be sent to stop the threats?"

At the sharp retort from the green skinned general Duadin bristled, "Aye, you watch your tone. We are the saviours of the herald, blessed by the Inheiritor herself. We braved the Ivrory Labyrinth and took this very city where you now stand. You shall show respect that we have earned with our blood...." He stamps his foot, huffing slightly as he nods to Lindon, the occultist having saved them all numerous times in the past few weeks and months

Staring at the general he offers the Queen an apology. "Aye, sorry your Majesty. But we have earned more than that. We would welcome your advice bu we'll keep our own counsel. It has served us and the Crusade well so far."

Galfrey lays a gentle hand upon Tomor's arm. "Please excuse my general. He is a warpriest of Gorum, and thus is more suited to the battlefield than the war room." She whispers into the half-orc's ear who nods curtly and steps away. Queen Galfrey gazes upon your group. "The time for direct action is nigh upon us, and your plan is a bold one. However, it is not the end of the Locust Lord that will succor this land but the closing of the Worldwound. To this end the Silver Crusade, a loosely affiliated group of adventure seekers who have pledged to aid our cause, sent a number of their agents to scour Sarkoris for a means to close the Abyssal rift. And against all odds, one has, possibly, been found."

She waves her hand, and a gold ring with a blue stone glows gently. In the air between you, a minor illusion flickers into shape, showing two individuals riding in a carriage: one is a male half-elf with black hair and a goatee, a Cheliaxen aristocrat from his clothing and bearing. He wears a sword but doesn't appear armored. The other is a male tiefling with golden hair and yellow eyes, mostly human-appearing with only the hint of a ridge brow to reveal his devil-touched nature. He is well-muscled and dressed in stylish leather armor but doesn't have any obvious weapons on him.

"This is Count Varian Jeggare and his bodyguard Radovan. They have recently returned from northern Sarkoris with a valuable artifact, a book known as the Lexicon of Paradox." Here the image changes to one of a book, thick with rough looking pages, the covers seemingly made of tree bark. "It is this artifact that assisted Deskari's pet sorcerer, the half-succubus Areelu Vorlesh, in creating the Worldwound. It is our hope against hope that this same book can help us close it." The image fades away.

"Tomorrow I go to Nerosyan [the capital of Mendev] to meet with my court wizards who are studying the tome. I will take most of my guard and war wizards with me. I ask that you remain here and help in the defense of this fortress until such time as we can articulate a method to close the rift."

At the Queen's words, he considers what she is asking of them, then nods agreement. "I stand ready to defend your Keep, Milady. I am confident that we can hold it until you return," he says.

Duadin had slept fitfully. Even for such a devout dwarf the events of the past few days with the raid on the Ivory Labyrnth, the horrors they had seen within, and the rescue of the herlad were a lot to take in. Dawn had found him praying for guidance as he sat by a watch fire atop the tower looking over the blasted landscape and slowly rebuilding city of Drezen.

It seemed like an age since he had raided the place with his companions at the head of a small army and driven Stauntaon Vane out. But now looking at the high gates and the towering walls he worried about what might come. If the locust lord was stirring the attack would be swift and savage and without mercy and Duadin prayed to the Forge Father that he could spare as many as he could the horror of what was to come.

He saw the Queen and her entrouage leave in the pre-dawn light and headed downstairs, checking in on the guards with warm words and heads back down to the throne room. Seeing Akhmet he nods and offers a mug of warm ale from the tray that he had collected as he passed by the kitchens. "Though we might gather here, so I brought some beverages. The men seem happy, the walls look strong. If the Gods are with us they enemy will be recovering from the blow we struck and not strike back so so soon..." he pauses, pulling at his beard. "But I have a bad feeling, like when you know there is a crack in a blade you can't quite see until tempering. Something is coming, so keep your weapons sharp and to hand eh?"

Duadin's worst fears are realized. As the party enters the throne room, they find the queen huddles with her advisors near the throne, talking animatedly. To the side is a banquet table loaded with both hot and cold breakfast foods: white bread and cinnamon buns fresh from the oven, slabs of butter and soft cheese and honey, fresh fruit and preserves, hot black tea and a room temp oatmeal stout. But is it not the repast that draws your attention but the somber look on the Queen's face as she notices your arrival.

"My friends, we have reports that the demon armies have started to advance upon the borders. I must go to Nerosyan now to organize the defenses there. The nearest horde to Drezen, an immense force of vrocks, babaus and apocalypse locusts, is marching here as we speak. I charge you to repel their attack using any means necessary. I promise I shall return as soon as I can. With reinforcements if need be, or with news about the Lexicon if you manage the threat by yourselves."

Most of them are seasoned crusaders, thankfully, but only 1 in 10 are spellcasters. I will give General Tomor the command here.” At this, the half-orc gives you a toothy grin that could be mistaken for a sneer.

“The opposing force is led by a greater demon, a marilith general named Aponavicius. You will be a strike force that I charge to seek out Aponavicius and destroy or disable her. Without strong leadership, the demon horde should be much easier to rout, once they realize this city is not a prize to be easily won.”

With the offer of the wine he nods thanks and has a long draught, "Oh, that be a good vintage" he exclaims before the magical wine hits him and his brain grows in intense clarity as he tries to recall facts on the apocalyse locusts ad this Marillith general.

He tries to think of this particular marilith, knowing that one who has risen to such heights of command should have left many tales of her past.

Lindon recalls that a greater marilith is a mythic creature and has standard spell like abilities of a normal marilith such as teleport, telekinesis, fly, blade barrier, summon demons, immunity to electricity and poison, resistance to acid, cold, fire and also some magic resistance.

Duadin knows all that Lindon does and also remembers hearing that this marilith general is one of Deskari’s top commanders and prefers to lead her armies from the rear. She is cautious as well and recalls that of the numerous battles she’s led, not one crusader has been able to close to melee combat with her.

Akhmet has a sudden clarity, and remembers reading a centuries-old journal from an adventurer who encountered her in the Abyss. The mythic demon had a personal demiplane set amid the Rasping Rifts, Deskari’s home plane. From thence she could strike at her foes across the planes, through astral projections and other such magic. She was also known to have a corrupted phoenix as a pet and bodyguard.

"I know of this marilith," Akhmet says to the others. "She has a private demiplane from which she sends out astral projections to fight her battles for her. She also has a corrupted phoenix as her servant, which I am sure we will have to deal with. Besides that, I am sure you all know the basic powers of her kind." He considers the best way to fight such a creature. Perhaps instead of fighting their way through an army, only to end up fighting an enemy that isn't really there, they could go straight to her demiplane and fight her real body there. That way, she would likely only have a few servants present, including likely the phoenix, which would prove a troublesome enemy to have to face.

Tomor scowls in your direction. “I don’t know what your plans are, but just try to stay out of our way. I don’t approve of freelancers and adventurers. Discipline is what wins battles, no matter your past accomplishments.”

At least until we can cut the tail from the snake demon that commands them." Looking at his companions he points up to the roof, "Shall we ascend the tower to get a better vantage point. The power of the Sword of Valour should prvent the vile demons teleporting within the structure itself."

If the others agree he'll tramp upstairs and stand atop the main tower, looking out towards the World wound, a gruff "Stand ready men, Honour her." as he waits for the inevitable hail of demons and death to decsend down upon them

As Duadin leads the group to the northwest tower’s stairwell, they pass squads of soldiers hurrying to their assigned positions. They give your party a wide berth, recognizing you as the Queen’s champions.

As you near the tower, you can hear distant sounds of fighting: the guttural roar of demons and the screams of men and women dying. A pair of guardsmen are rushing towards the stairs, one of them gives you a frantic look. “Demons in the tower, hurry!”

Having stowed away the decanter before the guard yelled out the danger, Lindon casts haste on the party and draws his bow as the group hurry up the tower. As they near their destination, he casts shield and displacement on himself.

Duadin’s short legs pump furiously and with his magically enhanced speed, he overtakes the guardsmen in front of him and bursts onto the tower rooftop, the rest of the party just behind him.

You see four huge demons, massively muscled humanoids with boar like faces and absurdly small wings that nevertheless let them fly. You don’t need your magically enhanced cognitive abilities to recognize them as Nalfeshees, a powerful greater demon. Two of them are aloft, rending apart the unfortunate guardsmen in their claws. Two are on the rooftop, blood dripping from their fangs and claws. They turn and smile at you. "More meat. Good."

"Wait for me, guys", Gracediana had been mediating during the meeting, that last battle took out some stamina. She notices them walking away as she wakes following them quietly. Her Charles follows behind her.

She turns toward the Nalfeshnee's and smiles, finally some fun.
She waves her hands and summons forth an angelic being with smoothest skin you ever saw, a lean muscular body with large golden wings, and holding a heavy mace in one hand beside one of the Nalfeshnee. "Go destroy these fiends"
The Deva swings her mace as hard as she can at them.

Duadin scores a mighty blow against the nearest nalfeshnee, staggering the much larger creature.
The golden deva also strikes the same demon, scoring a hit but also missing once with its mace. It’s a decent blow but does much less damage than Daudin’s mighty hammer.

Lindon invigorates the group with a rousing cry. He fires arrows pluck from the quivers under his cloak at the demon that Nalfeshnee that the dwarf hit before moving back inside the tower to use its walls as cover from the sight of the demons.

Lindon’s first arrow takes the wounded nalfeshnee in the eye, dropping it immediately. His next 2 arrows strike the demon behind it, wounding it. His fourth arrow bounces off the demon’s tough hide however.

Lindon recognizes that these demons are immune to poison and lightening, and also have the power to call lightening and also summon an unholy aura to disorient its foes.

His movements a blur, Duadin moves to the other demon standing on the rooftop and strikes him 4 times in quick succession, the first 3 blows toppling the monster, the last one crushing its brutish face in. Two down.

The summoned angel's first 2 strikes are repelled by the demon's tough hide, but the last one draws blood. Gracediana's strike hits solidly and the demon roars in pain, but continues to glow.

The remaining flying nalfeshnee stares at Duadin and points at him with one hand while motioning to the sky with the other: a bolt of lightening crackles down from the sky and strikes the stout dwarf.

As the lightning slams into the dwarf it flows over his frame leaving a faint smell of smoke and ozone. Looking up he utters a brief prayer to Torag as the smoking beard regrows thick and bushy before he gestures with the hammer a beam of white light erupts outwards exploding between the two flying pig demons seeking to burn out their eyes and burn their demonic flesh. "Aye, ye flying beasts, come down here and fight me.." he bellows

"Looks like I should add another friend", Gracediana says. Using Wild Arcana and burning a mythic surge, suddenly another creature appears opposite the glowing demon. This creature has the body of a seductive, winged elven woman from the waist up and that of a snake from the waist down. It immediately starts singing a song (everyone gets +2 bardic music bonus of hit/dam). Then tries to slam the creature with its tail.
Gracediana with the creatures help attacks furiously again.

And the Deva continues its onslaught with its mace vs its foe.

Again, 3 out of Lindon's 4 shafts find their mark, and the nalfeshnee appears seriously wounded. Before the demon can react, a flurry of blows from Gracediana and her summoned allies brings the monster low, and its lifeless body falls to the rooftop.
The remaining demon stares wildly about, utters an Abyssal curse, and attempts to flee the battle. This close to the demon-warded Tower, it cannot teleport away, but instead flies towards the outer walls, where masses of demons are already closing in.

Akhmet's air elemental appears, and as the demon tries to flee, Akhmet calls out to the much faster elemental to try to catch up with the demon and bring it back or destroy it. "Catch and destroy that demon, my insubstantial friend," he yells. He then calls down a divine flame strike onto the demon, trying to fry it before the elemental even arrives.

Three more arrows sink deeply into its back, and the demon wobbles in midair, seriously wounded.

Duadin hops onto a crenellation for a better look around. He sees masses of demons, strangely well-ordered in battle formations, massing against the town walls on every side. The city is well and truly surrounded. For now though, the regiment of crusaders seem to be holding off their advance well enough, as there are no breaches anywhere in their line. He can almost imagine seeing Tomor the half-orc cleric yelling at his troops, trying to make them fear him more than the demon horde.

Akhmet sees that the demon is badly hurt, but he wants to destroy it completely before it can escape. He casts another spell, causing a blast of pure noise to attack the demon, hopefully damaging as well as stunning it. Meanwhile, he watches for the elemental to also attack the demon.

Sound Burst spell cast on the demon. DC 32 versus SR, and Sonic damage, plus 1 round of stun if it fails its save throw for half damage, DC 20.

Air Elemental will attack the demon, 2 slams at +21, for total attack rolls of and 1d20+21. If successful, damage rolls are [roll2] and [roll3].

The demon claps its hands to its ears as the sonic attack buffets it. Before it's able to react further, its head flies clean off its shoulders, as the elemental swoops past. Its headless body falls heavily to the courtyard far below, narrowly missing some civilians.

The guardswoman runs down the winding stairs. She doesn't stop at the ground floor, but continue on into the lower levels, into the dungeon that you cleared out some months earlier, although it feels like a lifetime ago.
You pass the corrupted forge and armory, which have been somewhat restored to their original state by the crusaders, and enter the old Ritual Chamber. A small dais of steps descends into this oddly shaped chamber,
while more stairs lead to the northwest and southeast. Everburning torches line the walls, and a circle of arcane purpose, instead of the demonic one you remember, is scribed on the floor. Overhead, the ceiling rises nearly forty feet.
To the north is a large alcove, which mirrors one to the south. A large everburning brazier lights the chamber. The western wall of the northern alcove is glowing, and Akhmet recognizes Abyssal ruins forming themselves, dark shapes amid the light.

Akhmet quickly casts two spells upon himselfr, to prepare himself for more battle. His spells protect him from being trapped and also from death effects, either of which the demons could do to him. "I do not think I could dispel such an effect. We may have to go through to the other side, in order to destroyh whatever is creating the portal," he says to the others.


Akhmet will cast Freedom of Movement and Death Ward upon himself.

As soon as Akhmet finishes casting his wards, the glowing wall of runes flashes with a sickening mauve light. A portal opens and 4 large locust-like fiends flies out and immediately sets upon your party!

One more round passed while Akhmet case his spells. Also, Akhmet recognizes the demons as apocalypse locusts. Roll for initiative.

Duadin sped downstairs following the soldier before seeing the strange wall. "Doesn't look good, but anything that comes through there we will meet with fire and fury". Seeing Lindon and Ahkmet casting defensive spells he nodded in agreement, a bloom of defensive magic flowing over him as well as his shield glowed, his mind hardened and his skin took on a silvery sheen of flowing mithral

A good idea, as seconds later as the portal blasts into life spewing vile locusts out he snarls in rage at the affront to their sanctuary he leaps forward still under the effects of Haste transferring his vigour to his mind to fortify it as the maddening buzz and crackle of their legs and their great stench hits him. Reaching the nearest he swings once with brutal effect.

Akhmet manages to avoid the worst of the creeping doom effects. He decides to channel energy once again, to try to destroy those effects as well as the locusts. But he is still a little distracted by the spell effect, and has a little difficulty in focusing. But he still manages to grab at his holy symbol, and with a prayer, he calls upon divine power to destroy the enemy.



He uses Alignment Channel Energy once again. DC is 22. Damage is [roll0].

With three quick strikes, Duadin downs the apocalypse locust he struck earlier, and it lies in ruin at his feet. He doesn’t take time to gloat, however, and immediately sets to on the nearest locust, striking it a solid blow even as it tries to evade.
Akhmet concentrates briefly and releases another burst of golden light, scorching the remaining locusts.

"Aahhh, get these creepy crawlies away!" Gracediana says as she tries to not get eaten by the multitude of bugs. The to divine beings (Deva and Lliend) are both steadfast and unwavered. The Lliends starts singing then screams at a swarm.
The Deva starts chanting and unleashes a beam of divine light washing over area: Holy Smite.
While Gracediana turns translucent and disappears.

Gracediana casts Improved Invisibility defensively (DC 23+Damage Taken) since the swarms can't hurt what they can't see. Then move out of swarm.

Gracediana and her summoned angels are able to resist the worst effects of the swarms. The Lilend utters a piercing sonic attacks that kills some of the insects, and the Deva slams its morningstar on the ground, unleashing holy power that blasts the nearby insects into nothingness. Still, despite being diminished, the swarms continue to buzz madly around your group.

Akhmet's Blade Barrier springs to life around him, damaging the bugs directly its path but leaving access at the top for the flying critters to still get to him. The whirling blades miss Tragmok by inches, who was standing closest to Akhmet.
