View Full Version : Vanished buttons?

For the last couple days, I have noticed that when I make a post on computer, the usual buttons (like italics, text colour, insert spoilerbox or insert video for examples) above the text box are nowhere to be found.

I don't remember disabling anything and loging out and in again doesn't fix anything. Is this a bug?

Can you grab a screenshot?

By any chance, is your browser blocking scripts from giantitp.com ?

I don't think so. I haven't touched the settings in ages and checking them now, I don't see anything that looks like it does. Do bear on mind that I don't know what I am doing.

Windows update mucking up your settings? It wouldn't be the first time that happened.

I'd take a look at what Adblock is blocking.

How do I check for that?

I'd take a look at what Adblock is blocking.

Disabling it does not resolve the issue.

If you use a different browser, does the issue still persist?

I'm using Edge to type this and, no it doesn't.

So it's an issue with Mozilla, it seems.

Have you checked your forum settings to make sure you didn't get put into a basic text mode?

Go up to your settings, click on "General Settings", and scroll down to Miscellaneous, and you should see this:

I am still on Standard Editor.

Does anyone know what Mozilla Firefox setting would block these scripts?

Does anyone know what Mozilla Firefox setting would block these scripts? If you'll pardon a guess, since I'm not familiar with all the addons you have buttons for there in the upper-right corner....The shape of the white "S" with the dark-cyan-ish background reminds me a lot of NoScript's blue "S"; which is where I can mark scripts from giantitp.com as untrusted to get a scenario similar to yours (no editor bar but still has the smiley box on the right; the forum's Basic Editor setting doesn't have the smiley box), and can mark scripts from giantitp.com as trusted again to get the editor bar back.

It's an add-on to change layouts of some specific sites, I wanted to use it for Roll20 but it was borked nd just forgot to get rid of it. I didn't use it for anything related to giantitp.com and deleting it didn't solve the issue.

I forgot to ask earlier, but have you tried Step 1 (restart your computer)?

Aaand, they're back. No idea why, I hadn't touched my computer in two days.

Did you notice if Firefox updated when you started it now? They update pretty frequently so maybe one update screwed something up and the next one fixed it?

Have you tried starting Firefox in safe mode? If that solves the problem, then the cause is some extension or theme that you have installed.

Can't say that I noticed anything. Now that it is fixed, I don't much care. It'll have to remain as one of the Universe's Great Mysteries.

Try reloading the reply site while clearing the browser cache - open a reply, and then hit CTRL+F5. Alternatively, clear all cookies and cache and site-specific settings for giantitp.com. Don't have a firefox handy, but should be working like this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox

Sometimes the caches get corrupted. Had a similar issue a few months back with chrome, and I _think_ that fixed it.
