If goblin were in there, it would have come in at number 3.Elf is so high because I had an elf phase when I was younger. I've played, like, five elven characters. Now I dislike elves as characters and am intending to play more of the halflings, half-orcs, and goblins (I've played three goblins)

Personally, I prefur playing as none of these races, prefuring slightly more obscure ones (anything from goblins and orcs, to my personal favorite, the chitine). My DM doesn't mind, as long as I can explain why on earth my chitine left the underdark and became a paladin. Which I could. But I'm also partial to using Savage Species or adding a template...but I, if possible, flat out refuse to play as a human. Yeah, they get an extra feat and more skill points, whoop-de-doo. Yeah, they're really useful, but, if possible, I prefur not playing humans. Or fighters. If I do play as a core race, for example, the elf, I usually try and get a wild elf. Or a mountain elf. Or a wood elf, rather than the high elves in the PHB.

I like the idea of the Mystic Theurge as well, but I don't recommend it to most players. It requires substantial deviousness with lower-level spells to make it truly shine unless you're in the upper third of character levels. I like being devious, though...which leads to my current favorite. The Arcane Trickster. Preferably, a kobold arcane trickster trapsmith . You don't go for sheer skill-monkey-ness or arcane power with such a character--you'd be a failure if you tried--but for pure unadulterated twisted fun, there's not much that can match that little bugger. If your opponents aren't both confused and infuriated, you're going too easy on them.

Cross-class for fighter, barbarian, paladin, wizard, sorcerer, cleric, druid.

And we pictured all these party members trying to throw themselves to the ground.

''Quick! Get down!''

Fighter: ''Gnn...mmm...Narg. I'm trying!''

Or useful for falling off a cliff...you fail the check, you end up floating!

OK, how doesn't Bard fit in with 'pranksters with a talent for illusions', exactly? Would you honestly prefer the 3.0 silliness when their favored class was Wizard (Illusionist)?

Because one of the core concepts of DnD is that humans mate with everything that moves and constantly. That's why human civilizations are so big, and why there's a half- everything.

Because one of the core concepts of DnD is that humans mate with everything that moves and constantly. That's why human civilizations are so big, and why there's a half- everything.

You'd think that would result in the human race rather rapidly becoming diluted into half-races, to the point where there isn't a solidified 'human' category anymore.

That... actually sounds like a very interesting setting idea. *Gathers notes*

You mean all humans basically being Mongrelfolk?

least favorite race 1/2Orc big, dumb, ugly, smelly hated by everyone, made by rape things

favorite race : Dwarfs gruff, but sturdy, who needs a sword when you can swing a waraxe or a hammer around. every group needs a dwarf

Elves and to a lesser extent dwarves. They're both too long lived, elves are too tree-huggy, and dwarves are too... well dwarven.. Gnomes live too long as well, but nobody cares about them.

Fluff discussions, because they're not limited by games, and can produce some interesting ideas.

Least favorite types:

Duplicates of currently active topics
Zillions of spammy poll threads that could really be all condensed into one if their creator put any thought into his actions
Alignment debates, especially concerning Paladins in general, Miko in particular, or Batman.

Kender. Or any other kleptomaniac race.

Unless the DM takes a page out of the old Might and Magic handbook and puts lethal traps on everything (barrels, sacks, crates, wallets, dressers, shiny objects), and forbids kender from taking levels in any class with trapfinding.

Warlock. I like at will SLA's and with the supplements out now you can build a good one.

Seconded. I think unlimited "casting" is truer to the fictional archetype of the caster, and it is definitely one of my favourite non-PHB classes.

In the PHB though, I'll have to go Rogue, just because it is impossible to go wrong.

The alternative, of course, is that a 1/8 elf, 1/8 orc, 1/8 dwarf, 1/8 yuan-ti, ...
averages out into a human.

And, I'm still waiting for WOTC to release the template required for Gilgamesh and Enkidu, 1/3 god and 2/3 god templates...

Although according to the way "half-" would work for the 1/8 people would be...

Half-Elf Half-Orc Half-Dwarf Half-Yuan-Ti.... Effectively making you 4 different people.

And so you Gesalt 4 different classes. Woo!

Disable Device.

Sure, it saves lives. But if nobody has disable device, traps are way more fun.

Usually if nobody has disable device, there are no traps.

I think he means a half-elf breeding with a human to make a 1/4 elf, then again to get a 1/8...

Out of the core, halflings. Why did 3rd Edition have to turn them into kender, WHY???

I'd like to take the oppurtunity to flaunt my dislike for people who dislike gnomes. What's there not to like about them? :smallannoyed:

Agreed. Profession should never have been a skill. If a player wants to be able to cook, drive a wagon or sail a ship, they can do so without spending skill points on it damnit.

Close second&third would be gather information and diplomacy as it's written. Those are the bits we're supposed to roleplay, not roll for! :smallconfused:

Unless, you know, you're playing an ocean setting or want to use siege weapons.

I dislike forgery, it's very rarely used, most of the uses you can think of will be disallowed anyways, and anything you can do with it, you can do with bluff better.

My top three:

1) Jade Phoenix Mage. Haven't had a chance to play one yet... love the gishiness, love the flavor, and a jaw-dropping capstone ability.
2) Knight of the Middle Circle. Never updated, so still legal in 3.0. Pick one target and +2/+4/+6 to hit, so essentially up to +6 BAB as a class ability.
3) Battle Howler of Grumsh. Partly because I love the idea of an orc bard, but mostly so I can put Perform (Battle Yodel) on my skill list.

Usually a combination of Rogue, and either Swashbuckler, Duelist and Fighter or any combination of them depending on how many levels I get and exactly what I'm aiming for.

The gist is a fairly good melee fighter who can dump strength.

Daggerspell Mage
It's not the most optimal build, but there's all those fun little gishy spells you can toss out there. Steel Dance, Wrath Strike, Critical Strike, Daggerspell Stance. It takes forever to get the character worthwhile, but it provides a lot of good times. The built in versatility (you get some melee, casting, and trapfinding) works well for a 'high-adventure' style game as well.
