Binder - the vestiges "Arete", "The Triad" and "Abysm" all give bonus psionic abilities.
Divine Mind (Ectopic Ally) - Gain the ability to summon an Astral Construct as a psi-like ability (WOTC Site)
Divine Mind (Hidden Talent) - Gain a first-level power from the mantle you first selected (WOTC Site)
Erudite (Spell-to-Power) Turn your power points into spells. (WOTC Site)
Erudite (Favored Discipline) - choose a single discipline, and you can learn all powers of that discipline, regardless of the class list they're on (WOTC Site)
Erudite (Mantled Erudite) - the powers of a mantle are considered general psion/wilderpowers (WOTC Site)
Psychic Warrior (Mantled Warrior) - Choose a mantle at 2nd level in place of your feat. Can pick powers from the chosen mantle. (WOTC Site)
Soul Knife (Hidden Talent) - Gain the Hidden Talent feat (WOTC Site)
Wilder (Educated) - Gain the Expanded Knowledge feat (WOTC Site)

Expanded Knowledge - Add one additional power up to one level lower than the highest-level power you can manifest, including powers from another discipline's list. (Expanded Psionics Handbook)
Hidden Talent - choose one first-level power from any psion list (Expanded Psionics Handbook)
Illithid Legacy - add Psionic Charm and Read Thoughts. (Requires one Illithid Heritage feat) (Complete Psionics)
Illithid Legacy, Greater - add Dispel Psionics and Psionic Dominate (Complete Psionics)

Non-Standard Means of Adding Psionic Abilities
Allies with psionic powers can share abilities. Followers, psicrystals with "Hidden Talent" feat, or other psionic allies can all help with this.

Mental Pinnacle (Sorcerer/Wizard 6) - A Sorcerer/Wizard spell that gives you various psionic abilities to use
Psychic Chirurgery (Telepath 9) - allows the caster to add psionic powers to another character. (Expanded Psionics Handbook)
Use Psionic Device - cast a psionic ability on a psionic device

Thank you! I'm a bit puzzled by this bit though:


Warmage - advanced learning at specific levels to gain wizard or sorcerer invocation/evocation spells

Warmages can already learn evocation spells from their normal advanced learning class feature. There's a Warmage ACF in PHB2 (p.67) called Eclectic Learning which allows them to learn non-evocation spells. As far as I know, there's no such thing as invocation spells, invocations are what Warlocks get instead of spells.

As far as I know, there's no such thing as invocation spells, invocations are what Warlocks get instead of spells.

"Invocation/Evocation" is older terminology, since the two words used to be synonymous in D&D. I don't think that survived in 3.5, but people coming from older editions may subconsciously use it still.

Maybe honourable mentions or indirect methods:

Anyspell and Greater Anyspell - (FRCS) These are domain spells specific to the Spell domain, but allow the caster to prepare and cast essentially any arcane spell from a domain slot of to sixth level.

Sword of the Arcane Order - (Champions of Valor, feat) in effect adds arcane spells to the Ranger and/or Paladin list since it allows you to use your Ranger or Paladin spell slots to prepare arcane spells from the Wizard list.

Node Spellcasting (Champions of Ruin, feat) - very indirect, and relies on a lot of GM fiat, but evil or earth nodes grant spells up to a level of the node's class, and these are explicitly any spells, not just spells off a particular list. Node Spellcasting allows you to access the node's spells, in effect adding them to your spell list.

Added Customize Domain and Dragonblood Spell Pact. Checked through Sandstorm and Planar Handbook and found a few spell-like abilities in Sandstorm, but no expanded spell lists. I've added them for completeness's sake though. Anything I've missed about getting more spells?

The Touchstone feat (Sandstorm), and Planar Touchstone feat grant access to a domain as a cleric of yoyr character level, as a greater power. Technically they aren't on your list, but seeing as how anybody can acquire it, and it grants any domain, it's pretty versatile.

Is it worth mentioning that a single level of Chameleon puts every 0, 1st, and 2nd level spell in the game on your list? And that, that actually means dozens and dozens of 3rd, and 4th level cleric and wizard spells? And that a second level grants access to all the feats listed in the guide?

Also, Domain Draughts (magic item): CL 20, 3,300 gp a pop, but for 24 hours your domain spells are replaced with the domain spells of the domain the Domain Draught is founded on. Technically expands your spell list for that timeframe similarly to the Domain Staff.

"Invocation/Evocation" is older terminology, since the two words used to be synonymous in D&D. I don't think that survived in 3.5, but people coming from older editions may subconsciously use it still.It still ought to be fixed, since it will confuse people for no reason and no gain.

Thank you! I'm a bit puzzled by this bit though:

Warmages can already learn evocation spells from their normal advanced learning class feature. There's a Warmage ACF in PHB2 (p.67) called Eclectic Learning which allows them to learn non-evocation spells. As far as I know, there's no such thing as invocation spells, invocations are what Warlocks get instead of spells.

Added the Warmage ACF and fixed up Warmage. Thank you very much.

Has anyone mentioned Hexer yet? 3.0 Masters of the Wild. Can be awfully difficult to qualify for, but it adds a Sor/Wiz spell to your class list every 2 levels (5 in total).

Bloodline feats from Dragon Compendium add 1 spell of each level 1 through 9 to a spontaneous arcane caster's spell list (and spells known).

The Arcane Disciple Cleric variant in Dragon #311 loses turn undead and domains to gain access to any level appropriate sorcerer/wizard/bard spell at each level. This is a particularly useful for a character in a party with a single spellcaster.

It might be handy if you could write down the source for each method.

Has anyone mentioned Hexer yet? 3.0 Masters of the Wild. Can be awfully difficult to qualify for, but it adds a Sor/Wiz spell to your class list every 2 levels (5 in total).

Bloodline feats from Dragon Compendium add 1 spell of each level 1 through 9 to a spontaneous arcane caster's spell list (and spells known).

For manifesters, you can expand your power list and powers known list in several ways, some of which are a bit unusual.

Taking Hidden Talent or Expanded Knowledge. Both explicitly allow you to choose from lists not your own.

Paying for a manifestation of psychic chirurgery.

Related to adding spells to your class list, how about adding to your spells known, even temporarily?

Having an ally with powers known that're on your class's power list allows you to manifest from their powers known. Whether your psicrystal has taken the Hidden Talent feat or you're in a party heavy on manifesters, this is very useful.

Has anyone mentioned UMD and UPD for casting from scrolls/wands/staves or manifesting from power stones/dorjes/psicrowns? It's not a permanent addition to your class's spell or power list, but it's good for a one-off. Likewise, eternal wands can be used by any arcane caster, regardless of whether the spell is on your class list or not. For instance, a wizard can use an eternal wand of cure light wounds from a bard just fine.

Chameleon 1 (CC). A single level adds all 0, 1st, and 2nd level spells from every class in the game. 500+/- spells. In effect it nets over 60 3rd and 4th level spells! (http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=135.0) to your spel list, from a single 1 level dip (and a feat, and race limitation).

IMHO, Chameleon really isn't expanding a spell list, it's creating it's own, like many other PrCs with self-contained casting.

You might just as well note that Archivist potentially has access to every spell in the game.

Also bear in mind Chameleon has "pseudo casting" of a sort, and cannot be advanced through normal PrC methods.

2. The Chameleon entry is too brief to accurately do justice. Perhaps clarify with something like:


The entry needs something. Because as written, it could mean chameleon 2 gets either wizard 2, or cleric 2. It also gets bard, paladin, ranger, trapsmith, assasin, all unique class spells, and every PRC, even if the PRC grants spells at discount levels (by RAW, check with DM).

Chameleon 2 lets you make wands out of all those spells at those discount levels, due to the floating feat. In fact, Cham 2 let's you access nearly every trick in this collection, while bypassing 90% of them.

For manifesters, you can expand your power list and powers known list in several ways, some of which are a bit unusual.

Taking Hidden Talent or Expanded Knowledge. Both explicitly allow you to choose from lists not your own.

Paying for a manifestation of psychic chirurgery.

Related to adding spells to your class list, how about adding to your spells known, even temporarily?

Having an ally with powers known that're on your class's power list allows you to manifest from their powers known. Whether your psicrystal has taken the Hidden Talent feat or you're in a party heavy on manifesters, this is very useful.

Has anyone mentioned UMD and UPD for casting from scrolls/wands/staves or manifesting from power stones/dorjes/psicrowns? It's not a permanent addition to your class's spell or power list, but it's good for a one-off. Likewise, eternal wands can be used by any arcane caster, regardless of whether the spell is on your class list or not. For instance, a wizard can use an eternal wand of cure light wounds from a bard just fine.

This is a good idea, I'll start work on a section for adding psionic abilities tomorrow.

IMHO, Chameleon really isn't expanding a spell list, it's creating it's own, like many other PrCs with self-contained casting.

You might just as well note that Archivist potentially has access to every spell in the game.

Also bear in mind Chameleon has "pseudo casting" of a sort, and cannot be advanced through normal PrC methods.

I understand. I myself am not sure why spell storage items were discussed. But the Archivist example isn't really much like the chameleon example.

Archivist starts with 2 cleric spells, while a Chameleon knows every divine spell. An Archivist 6 couldn't even afford all of Chameleon's level 1 divine spell access. Archivist needs 3 levels just to begin casting 2nd level spells, while a Chameleon has several hundred level 2 spells available from day 1.

You're absolutely correct though. If one absolutely needs/wants Haste, Vampiric Touch, Wind Wall, Primal Instinct, Hunter's Mercy, Dimension Door, Bless Weapon, Bear's Endurance, Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Fox's Cunning, Invisibility, and a dizzying number of the best low level spells in the game on their list, Chameleon is the quickest way to get them all.
But note that, if the purpose of getting the spell is to qualify, then Chammy will not put out.

But i wasn't assuming an Archivist or Chameleon career. I was just getting a spell on the character's list. Chameleon can use all those items, yes?

I can only speak for myself, but i find that clutters the reading. Seeing the same words, phrases, titles, etc, over and over on a page, right next to each other, makes scanning and scrolling harder. It also can add 10% or more to an already large document.

I appreciate your work, and am only trying to help with any of these suggestions. I'm loving what you've accomplished so far.

I would also add Chameleon in the alternative means category, and maybe even mention Archivist there. It's good in case the character is Int SAD, can't get Able Learner, etc, but they wanna add several specific "1st level" spells to their access. Either of those 1 level dips can put a plethora of instant wand and scroll utility to charcter that's not a full caster.

Maybe add Trickster Spellthief from Dungeon 353? You gain bard spell level and spell list access.

Edit: also Knowstone from Dragon #333 gives spontaneous arcane casters access.

Any further suggestions or ideas, don't hesitate.If you have access to or are an erudite with the convert spell-to-power ACF, you can get access to all arcane spells and psionic powers (and if you have a minion or party member that is one and have access to psychic chirurgery, you can have those implanted into your head to manifest as powers). You can also nab divine spells-as-arcane-spells-as-powers through using the convert spell-to-power on a number of critters, such as many true dragons (for cleric spells) and dragons with the Child of Eberron draconic archetype (for druid spells). StP erudites also get access to other arcane caster classes' spells, as well, such as bards.

There are other ways to convert divine spells to arcane spells, in addition to the above, such as using Southern Magician to convert divine spells to arcanes when crafting scrolls, for example, although I'm not 100% convinced that that works. Maybe an intelligent spell storing weapon that can cast the Southern Magician'd spell stored in it?

[edit] Also, it's 'psicrystal (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/psicrystal.htm),' not 'psionic crystal.' That's (potentially) something else.

The Illithid Legacy feat from CPsi adds charm, psionic and suggestion, psionic to a manifestor's list of powers known (note that it does have prerequisite feats).

The mental pinnacle spell turns any character into a fake-Psion, and the Mind's Eye also released a trio of psionic vestiges for the Binder that grants them access to PP and powers.

There's other ACFs in the Mind's Eye archive that add powers.

I like the feat Dragonmarked Sorcerer, from Dragon 351, page 77. It’s Sorcerer-specific, and requires you to be from a Dragonmarked house, but it can provide a bunch of spells known. Basically, look through all the SLAs offered by the Least / Lesser / Greater Dragonmarks of your house, find the ones that are on the Sorcerer spell list, and you get all of those as bonus spells known.

If I’m not mistaken that works out thus:

I'm not sure they should be included in the thread. Thanks for checking that I have Silver Pyromancer in the list though.

Perhaps I'm not quite understanding the criteria? At the top of the Prestigious classes section it says:

...In general, any character who enters one of these prestige classes should gain access to spells unique to that class's spell list, at the same levels indicated for the standard class....
In this context, I thought 'gain access' was equivalent to expanding spell list?

(I hadn't noticed that you had Silver Pyromancer already.)

Separately, Troacctid's list (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1geywITbI4M-Up08SGD-rUHlnobR66aIgKqu7mILkmhU/edit#gid=691970088) can be searched for classes that grant access. There are a number of additional oddball ones.

It seems to be progressing its old casting without giving new spells. What am I missing?

Various spells (such as summon monster, summon planar ally, planar binding, and gate) can pull in creatures that can cast spells and use spell-like and supernatural abilities for you, essentially giving you entire spell lists to cast from, as well as extra actions to cast them with, albeit (typically) at a lower level than your own.

Various soulmelds also give you access to more spells and psionic powers -- for example, the disenchanter mask gives access to both detect magic and dispel magic.

Certain vestiges, when bound, grant access to spells and powers, as well.

The astral construct power, much like summon monster spells, can give you access to psionic powers at higher levels, including dimension slide, energy bolt, and concussion blast.

Leadership and other feats and abilities that grant permanent minions, such as the thrallherd PrC, Undead Leadership, and Dragon Cohort can give you whole characters that can cast spells. Effects such as dominate and psionic dominate can do the same, if for a more limited duration, although they're more risky in a lot of ways, due to dispelling and potentially successful saving throws. Improved Familiar does this, too.

I am amazed no one has mentioned the original Prestige Class for gaining new spell lists: the Eldritch Master from Dragon Magazine #280. Every 4 levels, you straight up pick an entire extra spell list to draw spells from. People ignore it because it does not advance caster level, but that can be fixed with practiced spellcaster.

I'm busy working on the thread, but I'm going to have to create a new thread because I've went past the 50K character limit, since I've added spell lists for Bloodlines and Domains. Is there anything I should work on reformatting for the thread to make clearer, or anything that I need to change or adding before I repost this thread?
