View Full Version : Looking for a list of immunities, resistances, and other must have properties

Not sure how the title conveys my message so I'll break it down. I'd like to have a generic set of custom magic items that cover all available immunities, resistances, and other essential things (like flight, regeneration, freedom of movement, etc). I'm wanting non-class specific stuff here. No need for effects that increase spellcasting or sneak attacks or anything, just looking at the baseline that every PC can benefit from. I'm sure I'll make more similar threads for class specific stuff.

For the sake of this request, market values are irrelevant, and the 200,000gp limit is not a factor. I just want to know how much it will cost. Looking for permanent effects not temporary or activation/limited use unless it's the only option. I'd also like to know the source. I can see a use for having the core properties then expanded.

I'll go back and edit my next post with the list of properties and their cost and source.

The List of Necessary Magical Items is a good start: https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?187851-3-5-Lists-of-Necessary-Magic-Items. Good things to get if your class doesn't give them to you

I am not sure about the ring of sustenance. It is convenient and fairly cheap, but I don’t think I have ever been in a campaign where a pc died of hunger or thirst without it, and taking turns on watches again is inconvenient but not fatally so.

To the must have list, I would suggest teleportation and planar travel, eventually. Also some form of mind shielding or other protection against mental attacks. Also scrying and protection from same.

Last time I tried to come up with a "baseline" set of items for a high-level character, here's what I wound up with:

I've been thinking of ways to get the most vital protections onto items you could plausibly always have on, no matter the occasion. For these purposes, I've merged some items together. But I haven't re-slotted any.

Semi-Custom Bracelet

Bracers of Armor (+1, Soulfire, Proof Against Transmutation): 100,000 x 1 = 100,000
Wand Bracelet: 12,000 x 1.5 = 18,000
Total: 118,000

Semi-Custom Anklet

Anklet of Translocation: 1,400 x 1.5 = 2,100
Cloudwalker Anklets: 50,000 x 1 = 50,000
Total: 52,100

Semi-Custom Ring

Ring of Feather Falling: 2,200 x 1.5 = 3,300
Ring of Freedom of Movement: 40,000 x 1.5 = 60,000
Ring of Sustenance: 2,500 x 1.5 = 3,750
Ring of Mental Fortitude: 110,000 x 1 = 110,000
Total: 177,050

Semi-Custom Necklace

Enduring Amulet: 1,500 x 1.5 = 2,250
Necklace of Adaptation: 9,000 x 1.5 = 13,500
Periapt of Health: 7,400 x 1.5 = 11,100
Periapt of Proof Against Poison: 27,000 x 1 = 27,000
Total: 53,850

Total Total: 401,000

It's expensive, yes. But can you really put a price on being able to take off your hood without fear of being mind-controlled?

You'd wind up having a bracelet, an anklet, a necklace, and a ring that you never take off, because you're paranoid that someone will leap out of the shadows and Save-or-Die you the second you're unprotected. But hey, it's at least not as impractical as wearing your Soulfire armor in the bath.

Ring of Universal Energy Immunity (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/magicItems/rings.htm#universalEnergyImmunity), a snip at 2,160,000GP. Apart from that, I think all the relevant items appear on the Lists of Necessary Magical Items pabelfly linked to.

Thanks guys. Great info so far. I know I saw both of those posts some time ago but couldn't remember where. It's looking like there could be a much shorter list than I expected. And I do know the Sustenance property may be questioned as "must have" but it's a super cheap property that makes life easier. Not that dire survival situations are that common, but I have been through the "save spell slots so we can eat" ordeal so I can see a value here :smallwink:

Can you link me to that post? I want to swipe your formatting, and read your notes.

Bear with me here, just checking my maths or whatever. If I'm getting this correct, I can get almost every available immunity to status effects (not damages) with the following:

Mind Blank 120,000gp
Death Ward 112,000gp
Favor of the Martyr 112,000gp
Amulet of Proof Against Poison 27,000gp
Periapt of Health 7400gp
Ring of Freedom of Movement 40,000gp

I think this only leaves a character vulnerable to blindness, deafness, and dazzling. Am I missing anything for status effects?

There's the Proof against Transmutation armor ability. It's a +5 equivalent that makes the wearer "impervious to any transmutation effect that would alter his form, including polymorph and petrification effects".

ETA: It's not technically immunity from blindness (in fact it causes blindness) but the Blindfold of True Darkness from the 3.0 Arms and Equipment guide gives blind sight out to 60 feet as long as it's worn. Again, also makes you blind, but, as long as you're in close quarters, you make blindness irrelevant, alongside illusions and gaze attacks.

Goggles of the Golden Sun (MIC p.205) make you immune to blindness and dazzling for only 4,000GP.

Edit: here's the list of conditions that can be inflicted: https://www.d20srd.org/indexes/conditions.htm

Edit 2: Raptor's Mask (MIC p.210) also grants immunity to blindness and dazzling, and is slightly cheaper at 3,500GP.
