View Full Version : D&D 3.x Other Homebrew Tortoise Mystic class, meant for PF1 (PEACH)

This is basically a mashup/gestalt of the dragonfire adept (from Dragon Magic) and warlock (Complete Arcane) classes. These classes, while not bad, are kind of weak compared to the Pathfinder base classes, so I thought well, why not combine them? Originally the thought was just to simply gestalt them, but I made some minor tweaks (slightly fewer invocations than a gestalt DFA/Warlock would get, mostly because there's a good amount of overlap between them) and arcane spell failure now applies to the warlock-list invocations as well.

Primarily I'm wanting to know if this is (at least roughly) up to par with Pathfinder's base classes.

(Class is named after the hobgoblin Tortoise clan, though anybody can take levels in this class)

Class Skills: Acrobatics, Appraise, Bluff, Climb, Craft, Diplomacy, Disguise, Intimidate, Knowledge (All skills,) Linguistics, Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Use Magic Device
Proficiencies: Light armor, but no shields, simple weapons
BAB advancement: 1/2 (as wizard)
Saving throws: Will and Fort good, Reflex poor

Ability descriptions
Invocations can be chosen from either the warlock (Complete Arcane) or dragonfire adept (Dragon Magic) list, and function as listed in those books. Spell failure chance, if you are wearing armor, applies to invocations.

Blast: ranged touch attack, standard action, provokes AoO, 60' range (no range increment,) 1 target

Breath Weapon: 15' cone-shaped burst or 30' x 5' line-shaped burst of fire damage. Reflex save for half damage (DC 10 + 1/2 your Tortoise Mystic level + your CON modifier.) Standard action, provokes AoO.

Breath Effect: As Dragonfire Adept (Dragon Magic page 26,) but can apply to either your Blast or your Breath Weapon ability. AoE effects don't affect your blast ability, but other effects do. (Effects listed as '10' on Dragon Magic pg 26 can be chosen at level 9 instead)

Detect Magic: Can use Detect Magic as a SLA at will.

Reduce Spell Failure: Reduce the ASF penalty from armor you wear by the listed amount, but only when using invocations. If you have arcane spells from other sources (such as wizard, sorcerer, or bard levels,) this ability does not affect them.

Scales: Your natural armor increases to the listed amount. If you already have natural armor, simply use the better of the two values.

Deceive Item: Gain the ability to take 10 on Use Magic Device checks, even when distracted or threatened

Tortoise's Resilience: Once per day, you can enter a healing trance for up to 2 minutes, gaining Fast Healing 1 for the duration, but you can take no actions and receive a -10 penalty on Perception checks. If you take damage, are tripped, bull-rushed, shaken violently, or otherwise disturbed, the effect immediately ends and unused rounds are lost.

Energy Resistance: Gain Energy Resistance 5 to two of the following energy types: Acid, Cold, Electricity, or Fire. Once chosen these cannot be changed. This stacks with other sources of energy resistance.

Blast and Breath Weapon Range Double: At level 10 your Blast range becomes 120' (500' with Eldtrich Spear,) and your Breath Weapon range becomes a 30' cone-shaped burst, or a 60' x 5' line-shaped burst.
