Hello- If a creature has a DR 10/+2, does a weapon with a +1 and +1 effect like flame damage count to overcome the DR or does it need to be a true +2 weapon.
thanks

It has to be a true +2 weapon.

As Tzardok says, in general special abilities don't count for the enhancement bonus vs damage reduction. The only sort-of exception is bane weapons, a +1 bane weapon counts as +3 vs its particular enemy type, so would overcome damage reduction of those creatures accordingly.

Technically speaking, Damage Reduction 10/+2 is 3.0 and should be updated in 3.5 to DR X/Magic.

Technically speaking, many such 3.0 DRs were updated to include a special material or alignment or damage type in addition to being magic, so check the 3.5 update manuals for case by case exceptions to this general rule.

Technically speaking pathfinder brought it full circle by having +X enhancements count as alignments and special materials when overcoming DR.

Yup, that's actually one of the better PF rule changes. ^^
(c-c-combo breaker)

iirc it's like:
+3 counts as Cold Iron or Silver
+4 counts as Adamantine (only for purposes of overcoming DR, not Hardness)
+5 counts as specific Alignment

So a +3 Adamantine Holy weapon will defeat pretty much any DR the typical party will face. Well, we're looking at a 53k price tag here so it better be effective.
Personally I love using Bane weapons by the golfbag, the only problem with it is that even Evil-Outsider-Bane won't overcome the Alignment part of a fiend's DR.

Edit:
A +1 Adamantine Holy X-Bane will overcome the DR of any Bane-keyed creature, bringing down the price to 35k and stacking an extra 2d6 damage on top.
