What are the lightest character races?

Short Answer: Kobold and Grung

Kobold can be something like 25lbs and average 30lbs given the given weight range.
Grung can average 30lbs, so presumably the same as Kobold

Halflings and gnomes are heavier at 35lbs
Goblins on the table in Volo's are 35lbs, but their traits block is 40 to 80lbs, averaging 60.

The Custom Lineage, Van Richten's Lineages, and the Witchlight races do not have a weight given, but notably Fairy is a a small race that can pick the height and weight from the table in the PHB, including those of medium races.

Ill work on this as I go:

Small races:
Custom Lineage: None Given
Dhampir: None Given
Hexblood: None Given
Reborn: None Given
Kobold: 25-35lbs, Table: 25lbs
Goblin: 40-80lbs, Table: 35lbs
Halfling: Avg 40lbs, Table: 35lbs
Gnome: Avg 40lbs, Table: 35lbs
Fairy: Pick from table in PHB. Notably, it doesn't say you can't pick from a medium sized race.
Harengon: Pick from table in PHB. Notably, it doesn't say you can't pick from a medium sized race if your character is small.
Grung: Avg 30lbs

So no way to get a character so light that mage hand can pick them up?

Fairy can cast Enlarge/Reduce. As long as the fairy weighs 40 or less they can be picked up.

If you cast the Reduce spell on them, their weight is shrunk to 1/8th, which is sufficient for mage hand to pick them up.

Fairy's can fly, so Mage hand picking up a reduced fairy is kinda... pointless.

But otherwise yeah,
reduce a creature 40lbs or less and you can.

On that note, since Harengon can be medium but pick height/weight from the PHB table, including those of a small race (halfling) which weigh 35lbs, you can have a Reduced Harengon to small weighing about 4lbs.

Quick comment :

Reduce
"The target's size is halved in all dimensions, and its weight is reduced to one-eighth of normal."

Mage Hand
"The hand can't attack, activate magic items, or carry more than 10 pounds."

Reduce is 1/8 and mage hand is 10 pounds. This means that mage hand can lift any creature with an initial weight of 80 pounds or less when they are reduced.

There are currently no published races available whose weight is 10 pounds or less (I have no idea about UA or homebrew). The closest is the 25-30 mentioned above.

Note that it is pretty easy for most familiars to carry a kobold

Invisible imp from pact of the chain can carry a light PC

Invisible imp from pact of the chain can carry a light PC

This depends a lot on how much the PC is carrying themselves. Medium armour alone could make it impossible, nevermind backpack, weapons, rations, bedroll, torches, etc. etc. etc.

If planned ahead for, sure, you can offload that on others (potentially) but worth bearing in mind.

For some reason now I have a mental image of a halfling thief in just their skivvies floating up in the air (can't see the imp of course) unlocking a window so they can gain access to the building and go down and open the door for the rest of the party.
