Hypnotic Pattern - creatures affected 1st ?

Say you cast this on a mixed group of undead and other creatures who are affected by mind-affecting spells and the undead have fewer HD than the other creatures.

Does the spell 'skip' the undead and then affect the other creatures or are HD 'wasted' on the undead first?

As Venger said the HD are wasted on the undead.

That is the reason why the spell has "Medium" range (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) to set the starting point. Point wisely^^
