So, assuming I'm locked into the following class levels Swashbuckler 3/Beguiler 4 (for reasons, more theorycraft than anything)...what is my best progression, assuming I don't want to lose any more caster levels.

At our table, Versatile Spellcaster will give me access to next level spells early, so if I hit CL 16, I can access and cast Beguiler 9 spells.

Some kind of skilful gish would be ideal.

Usual restrictions for my table: no PF, no 3rd party, no Kalamar, no Ravenloft (except EtCR), no Dragonlance (except campaign setting), ideall no Dragon (aside from compendium) or Dungeon; no psionics, no incarnum, no Artificers. No UA generic classes, prestige Bard/Paladin/Ranger etc.

No retraining, level drain shenanigans etc.

Assume 32 point buy, LA +0 race, standard WBL etc.

Cheers - T

Maybe finish with something like Abjurant Champion 5/Unseen Seer 8? That leaves you at +16 to hit and 17 levels of Beguiler casting advancement. You'll need Combat Casting and Practiced Spellcaster.

For non-divination spells, your caster level is 17-2 (divination spell power)16(Martial Arcanist)+4(Practiced Spellcaster)=20
For divination spells, your caster level is 17+3(Practiced Spellcaster)+2(Divination Spell power)=22.

Nice, I like that a lot.

I think I'll use feats to get Assassin's Stance before the US level, so I can advance SA damage.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. If you can swap around your early levels just a bit, then you might do:

So, something like:
1. Combat Casting
3. Versatile Spellcaster
6. Practiced Spellcaster
9. Martial Study[Shadow Jaunt]
12. Martial Stance[Assassin's Stance]
15. ??
18. ??

For 18th level I recommend skill focus underwater basket weaving.

I don't suppose it would make things more fun to splash a bit of Factotum in there? I definitely feel like Abjurant Champion and Unseen Seer are very solid, and probably the way to go, I just particularly like Factotum, I suppose.
