Battle Mech classes/weapons

I have been trying to make a sci-fi story I'am writing for L.A. class. In said story, I have things like a magic and aliens, but also mechs. I cant think of an effective war mech. My current issues are:

-mech "class" names
- racial differences for mechs. e.g. A race of elemental based creatures I have has stuff lik fire wepons,air manipulation etc. but humans? If anyone wants more details, I'll give them.

Ill update it when I can, as I have to leave. If possible try to drop some ideas.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at with this. Mech is short for mechanized, meaning machines with pilots. Even if you gave them some level of AI I'm not seeing 'races' come out of that. As far as 'classes' go, with mechs this generaly refers to size and/or armament, i.e. light mechs, medium and heavy as in Battletech universe. What a mech looks like and shoots is usually dependant on who built it.
