Nobody would even know what those were if they did show up.

Now, ceremorph the eyedrake, and you have your dragon/beholder/illithid ultracombo.

Nobody would even know what those were if they did show up.The comic has already used each of the base monsters, so most readers should understand that, for instance:

https://forums.giantitp.com/avatars/Beholder.gif + https://forums.giantitp.com/avatars/MindFlayer.gif = https://images2.imgbox.com/ef/a5/QzmsASrv_o.png

It would probably be accompanied with a joke like "How does that work? Actually, I don't want to know".

....Sorry to say, but my first thought when seeing the combined product was "who gave the beholder a mustache". Still a rather disturbing sight, but I wouldn't make the immediate connection.

And yeah, I doubt the Giant will suddenly introduce new creatures, especially 5e ones, to the story that's now almost reached completion for a one-off joke. It'd be funny, but it just wouldn't fit now.

I, for one, think it's a shame that you didn't immediately recognize Flying Zoidberg Head (But With More Eyes).

they are all 3rd edition

except maybe the eyedrake, what edition is the eydrake? I need to convert an eyedrake to 2nd edition ipso facto!

I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Flying Zoidberg Head is my next homebrew. It doesn't have any powers but it's really annoying, why not? And it can't be killed except if your character mates with it, after which your character will want to kill itself already.

Do you think TG will include it in the comic?

how come your homebrew campaign is a creature? what word means what? if you can convince him for a crossover, maybe he will, but I hope he stick with 3e creatures, and maybe a ceremorphed eyedrake.

they are all 3rd edition [...] except maybe the eyedrake, what edition is the eydrake?Yes, the eyedrake is from one of 5e's latest books. It is part of that edition's take on beholder reproduction where, instead of puking eggs, a beholder dreams new beholders into existence, often with weird distortions based on the beholder's current worries. Here, a beholder with a draconic rival can wake up to find an eyedrake next to it.

I really like those concepts, but then it turns out that the eyedrake looks especially stupid even by beholder standards. It is a legless dragon with eight eyestalks that resemble a pair of wings, and a big eye inside its mouth. :smallannoyed:

you know they can be named upon appearance? They can't, actually, for copyright reasons (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0032.html).

parody isn't allowed an exception? anyway, my idea for what an eyedrake should look like is your standard dragon but replace the four legs below with jellyfish-like tentacles and make it perpetually levitate, the tentacles 'though are really eyestalks, add extra eyestalks to the head's crown and make the draconic head be provided of a single eyestalk-less eye, cyclops-like, and you've got your eyedrake.

parody isn't allowed an exception? In this case, the copyright claim is part of the parody. I do not know if there was an actual legal issue behind the comic.

The eyedrake could be like that, but instead of sucking your blood its mouths would breathe elements at you.

I don’t think there’s time left in the story for many new characters. Maybe one or two. But the main characters are in a dungeon populated with some of the fiercest monsters in the world, so it wouldn’t be that weird if some of these creatures showed up as Gate defenders.

All of the dragon hybrids were going to be in this ultimate volume, but sadly, they were all related to the ABD that V familicided.

It's been a long road, getting from there to here.
It's been a long time, but my time is finally near.
And I will see my dream come alive at last. I will touch the sky.
And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna change my mind.

Cause I've got faith of the heart.
I'm going where my heart will take me.
I've got faith to believe. I can do anything.
I've got strength of the soul. And no one's gonna bend or break me.
I can reach any star.
I've got faith.
I've got faith, faith of the heart.
