I needed a spell to screw with my players a bit, by putting them against an illusion magician and his merry band of doppelganger and changelings.
It is crucial for the plan, however that they would not be able to communicate with each other, and Silence just doesnt cut it - its too small in terms of area, either stationary or allows Will save, and when it works it harms spellcasters.
So I'm thinking of a spell that would be like Fog Cloud, except that it gives a penalty of -5 on Listen checks for every 5ft of distance.
Would that be fair for a 3rd level spell?
Is there something comparable already?
