As the title says. Both subclasses allow the swapping of spells to their list. What spells are better than those given by default.

Im thinking mind spike instead of calm emotions for aberrant. But what else?

I don't know, being able to subtly cast Calm Emotions sounds like it would be an absolutely blast and amazing in social situations.

Although I am following as a Gith Aberrant Mind Sorcerer is very possibly my next character.

Well, for Clockwork:
lvl1) ditch Alarm for Armor of Agathys, ditch Protection From Evil and Good for Absorb Elements
lvl2) keep both
lvl3) ditch Protection From Energy for Dispel Magic
lvl4) ditch Summon Construct for Banishment
lvl5) keep both

My ideal list for Aberrant Mind:

1. Dissonant Whispers, Silvery Barbs (excellent spells to cast cheaply with psionic sorcery)
2. Detect Thoughts, Suggestion (great with free subtle spell from psionic sorcery)
3. Enemies Abound, Sending (I love enemies abound, sending is a great utility spell)
4. Evard's Black Tentacles, Raulothim's Psychic Lance (Combat stuff)
5. Modify Memory, Synaptic Static (subtle modify memory has so much potential)

for Clockwork:

1. Armor of Agathys, Shield (AoA is fantastic for protecting yourself and bastion of law combos nicely with it)
2. Aid, Lesser Restoration (great spells that sorcs don't usually get. Extended Aid is amazing)
3. Dispel Magic, Intellect Fortress (intellect fortress is niche, but amazing when you need it)
4. Freedom of Movement, Fabricate (or keep summon construct) (Fabricate is really fun and potentially extremely powerful if used creatively)
5. Greater Restoration, Wall of Force (just amazing spells that sorcs don't usually have access to)

What I would likely take for Aberrant Mind

1) Charm Person, Sleep
2) Calm Emotions, Suggestions
3) Enemies Abound, HoH
4) Black Tentacles, Charm Monster
5) Dominate Person, Synaptic Static

A lot of this is subtle manipulation of creatures who don't know it is coming

As mentioned above, Aberrant Mind got a very nice new toy in Strixhaven in the form of Silvery Barbs. Sleep is nice early on but I would not keep it past Tier 1.

Check out my Renaissance Man build in my sig. I give a great breakdown for each spell and why I pick it.
