Has anyone had any experience playing a Minotaur cleric? If so do you think they make a viable option for a Twilight Cleric? Are there any other Cleric Subclasses you'd recommend over Twilight for the minotaur? I've never played a minotaur character or a Cleric and am considering rolling one for an upcoming homebrew campaign.

Thanks!

Minotaurs will do fine with any cleric subclass so long as you have decent wisdom. If you are wanting to capitalize on their combat aspects like hammering horns then a few options do stand out more than others. War domain has some of the better options to complement those aspects. Forge domain will give solid offense or defense on the fly. Nature makes you more adaptable withe different damage types at later levels.

Without knowing more specifics of what you have as options for character creation, your perfer playstyle, etc the only general advice is pump up wisdom, have a decent level of strength for heavier armors, and decent constitution for hp.

As a cleric you're viable regardless of race. Twilight gets heavy armor and martial weapons, along with strong defenses and flight. so you will be decent as a melee cleric - and that will synergize with the minotaur's melee-focused features. You can go for a caster build as well if you want.

Using the Tasha's Customize Your Origin rule, or the upcoming MotM Minotaur, youll be able to assign the ability score bonuses wherever you want (e.g. Wis / Str) instead of Str / Con. Assuming Tasha's CYO is allowed, the MotM Minotaur is IMO slightly weaker than the original because you lose Imposing Presence in favor of a more niche ability called Labyrinthine Recall, which makes you better at tracking creatures and not getting lost. If you weren't planning on being the party face or backup face however, LR might be more useful to you than IP. Neither ability will hurt your clericking however.

The Goring Rush gives you a decent use for your bonus action early on. Later however you'll be spending that commanding your spiritual weapon and activating Steps of Night. So I'd say the synergy is pretty minor for this combination, but again, you won't be weak - Twilight is one of the strongest cleric subclasses in the game.

Every race is a viable option for every class. Choose what fits your character idea and go with it.

If you really wanna go "play the minotaur", order domain gives you heavy armor but not weapon proficiency. So feel free to use horn attack as your main attack

Also, order and minotaurs can have fun role-play synergy. I had an idea of a minotaur Cleric of order once. He was grim, serious, and only eat vegetables, so a bit shy to eat like a cow in public.

Ask if the DM will allow Hammering Horns to be used to knock an enemy prone instead of shove 10ft or if shoving into a wall has the possibility of knocking prone. If it does then it combo's pretty good with Spirit Guardians.

I like the imagery of a minotaur cleric, especially a hedge maze with a holy shrine at the center being watched over by a minotaur priest.
