Polymorph Problems

As the title suggests I have some small issuses with how to rule were whatever you just polymorphed where does the new creature appear, of course you can be a douche cannone and say as long as it is a large (or bigger) creature it morphs into like the middle of the body so it takes fall dmg but ya know that's terrible on the other hand it just always appears where they were standing also just seems dull so i'm here for some insparation.
Where is acceptable to make the new creature appear while still making it intresting and fun I thought about rolling a D6 and splitting it as head, stomach ,left arm, right arm ,left leg and right leg.

Spells do what they say they do - transforming something bigger into something smaller doesn't say they take falling damage, so they don't. If you transmute something standing on the ground, it will still be standing on the ground when you're done.
