I'm interested in getting into the American Civil War and I'd like your recommendations for miniature lines and manufacturers.

I'm probably leaning towards 15mm, but I am willing to consider other smaller and larger scales.

I'm interested in your opinions on the miniatures themselves and any opinions you have about their quality, aperance, durability, paint-ability, price and affordability... or any other material factor you think relevant.

Thank you!

For 15mm it’s hard to go past Old Glory if you’re in the market for an army.

Nicely animated and good proportions.
Easy to paint
Variation of figures within a pack so you don’t have the ‘clone ranger’ effect.
Reasonable detail. With dry brushing and/or washes you get very good effects that effectively fake a higher level of detail.

If you want a skirmish encounter, Essex.
Really good proportions and excellent poses.
Very high level of detail.
You need a high level of painting skill to show off the details on the figures.
