Warning, comic gibberish follows.
I just saw the last episodes of the "Birds of Prey" tv series. The series was rather disheartening in the beginning. Dinah, the untested heroine, was TOO childish, too annoying, too untested. She wasn't interesting! Oracle? She looked the part, but something in the way she acted didn't quite match what I thought it should be. But the series grew on me, and grew better as it progressed. Episode 13, the final one, was... too good for words. The series grew up to that point, and culminated. And Harley Queen as the main villain? Mia Sara as Dr Harleene Quinzel? The girl was insane, villainous... her twisted rationality, the immoral, violent murderess hidden behind the facade of her job. It was one of the best things I've seen. Oh, and Alfred! The butler was perfect!
Batman fans should see the series. The first half is a long warm-up for the second. The series was cancelled, but the creators had enough time to tie up most loose ends. I can't help thinking there wouldn't have been need to cancel it if things weren't drawn out too long in the first place, but I'm thankful for the last episodes any way.
There are bad things. The start was slow. Dinah was often quite annoying, and didn't get to show what she'd grown up to be. The whole "metahumans with superpowers" thing didn't quite fit the comic Gotham. The fact that people didn't know about metahumans, or the heroes that existed less than a decade ago, was a bit far-fetched. There are many annoying things about the individual episodes. I recommend it - it's not your comicbook Gotham, but it's got something, and it works, and Mia Sara is awesome.
