View Full Version : Something I just thought of...

Go ahead and stop me if this thread has been done, but...

So far, V's attempts at scrying for Haley have been blocked. Now, I know it's been suggested that maybe it's a fluke or something with Haley and scrying with Belkar or Roy's body might work, but, for the sake of the thread, let's say it doesn't.

Currently, I see the story as being viewed through Roy and Eugene looking down from the afterlife with scrying spells. (Granted, Rich can just change the point of view when necessary, but this is just speculation).

If the Cloister spell blocked against V's divinations, if it blocks against divinations in general, then would it block against Eugene's divinations as well? Will it block against even the most high-level divinations? If so, doesn't that mean that Roy will be unable to view the fate of Haley, Belkar, and his own body?

Discuss.

If Cloister is blocking scrying, then Eugene is likely out of luck. Anti-<insert magic effect here> spells tend to work one of two ways. One, they just grant immunity. No matter how powerful a wizard is, he's not going to be able to use illusions on someone with True Seeing active. Alternatively, it could simply require a caster level check, which is unlikely, as a caster check would mean one of Vaarsuvius' divination spells could have bypassed the spell by rolling a twenty.

Well Belkar coudnt have left AC without Roy body so the only way it would work with Belkar but not Haley is if Haley would be dead and Belkar would be carrying the bodies or if Haley got captured and Belkar got out of AC alone. But I just think its not gonna work anyway...or maybe when he try to scry Roy, he will see him scrying them with Eugene.

The Q, those are spoiler but without the s at the end.

This would've been a spoiler, if I hadn't used sneaky noparse tags.

But can you noparse a noparse...

Yes!

Back-to-the-topic:
Chances are, Eugene can't scry on Haley & Crew Cut.
Which, perhaps, is all the more reason why V's obsessive scrying attempts are important.
Or maybe not.

I can't find this in Origin, but...
a-Eugene is a frequent liar
b-PH, p. 57, says that specialist wizards have to bar 2 schools of magic, neither of which can be divination.
So it is more likely that Eugene simply didn't want to cast a divination spell and just said he couldn't.

a - Roy says that by the looks of it, Eugene hasn't been banned from divination when he visits his grave and
b - Eugene started as second edition mage. Would he be conjurer, whichs doesn't strike me as unlikely choice, he would have divination banned.
