Heirloom class 3.5?

A long time ago I played a game with a class where the base class has some kind of heirloom item, and as the class advanced you unlocked more abilities related to it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I can’t seem to find the actual class.

OP might also be describing Kensai, but I suspect it is Legacy Champion.

Good point. The evil equivalent is Warrior of Darkness from BoVD.

There's also the "Scion" prestige classes from UA. Not great, but that was a mechanic there too.

But Ancestral Weapon/Daisho and Kensei's Chosen weapon sound more like it.

The psionic version is soul knife, but no one likes to talk about that. Instead we bring up the cool psychic weapon master.
