View Full Version : Graft weapon power: dumbest weapons on your arm thread

The psionic power graft weapon fuses a weapon to your hand.

What happens if you fuse a Quarterstaff?

Do you have an 8 foot pole for a hand, or do you have a propeller hand? Can you two weapon fight with it?

I am less interested in the answers to these questions than I am in this question: what other dumb weapons create a hilarious mental picture with this power?

Maybe a halberd?

Fuse a gauntlet, and see if you can tell the difference.

Fuse a thrown weapon, like a dart or a shuriken, or bolas.

If Pathfinder is on the table, the answer is Gnome Battle Ladder.

Graft Weapon specifies "melee weapon you can use in one hand." That rules out several things mentioned.

Fusing a morphing/sizing weapon could get odd rather fast.

How about an unarmed strike...?

yeah unarmed strikes:
- size up to colossal size (since they always count as light weapon, despite their size)
- use throwing and returning enchantment
- morphing into other weapons
- ...

But not stuff like a lance. Take Monkey Grip and make it large. Now you have a 20 lb. pointy pole as a hand!

Does an improvised weapon count? Can you fuse a chair to your arm?

There is better. Anything can be an improvised weapon. Let's have a level 10 entropomancer with a grafted Sphere of Annihilation.

Why grabbing a fellow PC which is one size category smaller than you, use it as an improvised clubbing weapon (I seem to remember there is a way somehow to use people as weapons) and then fuse that with your arm? Unless the ennemies want to start messing with the sundering rules, your buddy is now invulnerable and doesn't need its move actions anymore.

Improvised weapons aren't weapons. That's sort of the point. I would say that's outside the scope of the power, and the OP's question.

If you fuse a warfan onto your arm, you could use it to really paddle your raft fast.

Arrows can be used in melee, although they're likely to break on first use, so I guess fusing one of those to your arm would probably not work out too well.

While the power specifies that you can only use it with a melee weapon, some melee weapons can also be thrown, and I don't see anything in the text to prevent you from doing so should you graft such a weapon.

I'll see you and raise you a goliath Monkey Grip whip.

EDIT: Lots of spells create weapon-like effects, but ice axe actually explicitly says it creates a weapon. Your arm would end in a "a battleaxe-shaped formation of jagged, fast-swirling ice shards". Until the spell duration ran out, and then ... ?

Claws? Do claws count?

And then there's the tanuki's, ahem, slam attack (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?576324-3-P-Tanuki-Marital-Arts-Style).

interesting, would they then count as manufactured? could you then put a weapon crystal on them?

Fuse with a Thinaun weapon that contains a soul.
Now you have two souls.
Maybe gets around soul trapping/destroying effects?

Shapesand dagger for a hand.
Focus on it really hard.
Now it's a spatula.

Are there any greater artifacts that are one handed weapons?

New idea: Rod of the Viper doubles as a +2 heavy mace witha head which can turn into that of an actual, living snake that tries to bite and poison people.

In a similar vein, the rod of lordly might can be grafted in its mace/longsword/shortspear form; things get weird when you turn it into a longspear or a 50' ladder.

Interestingly, you can't graft a Stump Knife, because you don't wield it in a hand.

Not the graft weapon power per se, but I have played a woodling silverbrow human artificer in the past who spent a ridiculous amount of character resources to get to have a prehensile tail on which to graft (as per the graft weapon graft) a greatclub as recipient for effects like enlarge weapon. Yes, optimizing for power wasn't really a concern in that game.

The final result, with a bit of refluffing involved, made for a very effective Pinocchio-style character. Big wooden nose included.
