I recall something like a decade ago on this site, there was an ambitious attempt at a 3.5 remake/rebalancing. I mostly remember, the Intelligence-based caster intended to replace the wizard was called "Tactician" or something. Does anyone remember this, and is it still online somewhere?

That would be Legend RPG, by Rule of Cool. Here's a review: https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/16/16080.phtml
A discord server of fans exists, and quite a few of the creators were active on this board, and some maybe still are.

Sounded like you wanted a link, so you can find the rulebook and the Hallow setting here (https://www.hedra.group/legend).

Serious props to you guys who made it. I’ve been pondering on making a dnd 5.3 that combines what I like from both editions for a while now but never really get around too it because i’m always preoccupied with something else else. Maybe one of these days I’ll try and see if I can get people to help me with it, once I get it somewhat playable anyway. All I can promise is that, if it ever happens, it will be jank and it will be hilarious.
