Hey everyone, today I’d like some help/advice on making the Brutal Crocodile discipline fun to use. I know grappling is often frowned upon but giving it a try could be fun, so any recommendations are appreciated. For what is worth I’m playing a Parasite (from Codex of Blood), focusing on natural attacks. 3rd party is approved on a case by case basis and 3.5 material is also on the table. We starting level 3, I don’t wish to multiclass and we have 3k gold. I have 1 or 2 remaining feats available.

Do you have a link to Brutal Crocodile? Is it Pathfinder or 3.5?

It's fine, it's a legal wiki.

And here's the link (https://libraryofmetzofitz.fandom.com/wiki/Brutal_Crocodile), no need to keep people waiting.

Might want to pick up the Hold Prey (https://libraryofmetzofitz.fandom.com/wiki/Hold_Prey) feat, which allows you a free grab whenever you attack with bite or tentacles. So you can emulate Hungry Jaws while in another stance.

Or Fang and Fury (https://libraryofmetzofitz.fandom.com/wiki/Fang_and_Fury) that allows you a bite attack when you initiate a maneuver.

Or Instinctive Grappler (https://libraryofmetzofitz.fandom.com/wiki/Instinctive_Grappler). Constrict damage

I’ll be picking Fang & Fury later but I was hesitant on hold prey and instinctive grappler. The first level Brutal Crocodile stance gives you grab and constrict, so I was looking for fun ways to improve grapple (outside improved grapple cuz I don’t wsnt to take ius). Being in another stance would be nice but grappling is hard by its own. I also got Swallow Whole (up to one creature larger) from an in game mechanic. Just letting you guys know.

Fair enough, I was thinking more long term.

The higher level you become, the better stances you'll have available, so later stances will just get better and better and so sticking with Hungry Jaws will get less and less enticing.

I mean you will be taking other martial disciplines, yes? Or are you only taking crocodile? Steel Coils with that 4d6 plus Str mod constrict would be useful, I'd think.

But the most effective options now and the most effective options later are two different things, and not knowing your game I don't know how likely you getting to higher levels is anyway.

Ok so, first thanks for the quick replies! This game will eventually go into higher levels, 100%. I'm doing an eldritch horror build with Parasite as my class and due to in-game reasons, I got the Swallow Whole ability for creatures of up to one size larger than me. So I thought about using Brutal Crocodile to cover the grappling part of it. I don't really want to invest a lot in grappling, which I know is usually required for it to function properly (maybe I'm wrong?) I will be focusing on Natural Attacks, Elemental Flux/Primal Fury, and maybe another discipline. Probably gonna take full-attack maneuvers or boosts that give me damage for all attacks. The whole Parasite concept is the same for my character, adapting and evolving yada yada. I got 2 claws and 1 bite, medium right now but my goal is to end as Colossal. I'm level 3, and have Elemental Flux Style, Altered Life, and Essence-Honed Flesh (which I'm hesitant to keep) and one pending feat. I think my str is good (25) and my cha is good too (24). I want to get some mileage off the Brutal Crocodile discipline without much investment as mentioned before, to pull the swallow whole thingy. I was also thinking of dropping using grapples at all nor brutal crocodile and just taking Symbol of Mercy lol. If something is about to die or be destroyed I just put them in stasis, so they can't move and I just swallow them with no opposition.
