Hey everyone! I was looking at ways to make grappling/swallowing whole easier and avoid the whole having to fight the grapple against the target. So I was thinking if I use the Symbol of Mercy (https://libraryofmetzofitz.fandom.com/wiki/Symbol_of_Mercy) feat to prevent any action and leave someone at 1 hp, would I still need to beat their CMD to grapple and then swallow whole? I just have this mental picture of a predator paralyzing its victim and swallowing it, while the victim can't do anything to prevent it.

Thanks in advance!

Also, another question. If you use one of those maneuvers that replace a skill check for an attack and you roll a 20, how do you confirm those crits?

I don't think you'd need to beat their CMD if they're immobile. Or if the special order given was to 'hold still' or some equivalent.

I don't know what the specific rules are for the skill checks that replace attack rolls. My understanding is that they follow the normal rules for skill roles, and as such are not subject to failure on a 1 nor critting on a 20. But it's quite possible that there's a specific rule in the books somewhere that says otherwise.

Can't help with the rules question, sorry. I just came in to ask -- aside from the cool/creepy prey-hypnotism imagery, what's the benefit to leaving the target alive at all? It couldn't fight your grapple if it were dead, after all.

Hey! The reason is pure RP fashion, the character being a Parasite and swallowing whole its preys while they're still alive, that's it. Going for full creepyness.

Just gonna use the thread to ask another question about Parasite. Do they get infinite healing in combat with their Renewal (https://libraryofmetzofitz.fandom.com/wiki/Parasite#Renewal_(Su)) ability? Like, you use it and you keep the animus and get healed by 1d6 per point in your pool?
