Happy days! Maybe I'm not going to be DMing SKT after all...

I would think in order to "prevent sharing", the bg in question must be part of a copyrighted product. I doubt they can legally prevent publication otherwise.

So if anyone knows how to check recent copyrighted names from DnD maybe we can glean something more?

Like the YouTube comments say, this might be a leftover from when 5e Spelljammer was going to include Dark Sun's wildspace.

In fact, I thought that was still the case and they had just renamed Athaspace to Doomspace, but apparently not.

And yes, I saw the first image on D&DBeyond, "wilspace" typo and all, before they replaced it.

So, crystal spheres are now floating around in astral space?

They aren't crystal spheres anymore, but yes.

Largely following the 4e model, yes. The Prime isn't a plane anymore, just bubbles in the Astral

I think Wizards might include a cartoon mascot with focus on gore heavy dark comedy for rule explanation.
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Vault_Boy (Definitely not based on him).
I mean I am not kidding but they might need good marketing.

There's... One around the Doomspace. Broken. Made by primordials to keep gods away, broken by the gods to get at the potential worshippers. Funnily enough, Doomspace *does* have a ton of critters previously native to Athas. The backstory is similar to 4e Dark Sun, where it was a place where primordials won the Dawn War. We may have already got 5e Dark Sun.

I don't know for sure, but does the function take into account other homebrews?

I mean could it be that someone just made a homebrew background reflavoring/renaming Astral Drifter as Athasian Dune what-was-it-again?

Well, balls. Each and every one of the balls. They got my hopes up.

Thanks for setting me straight, y'all!

I will confirm here and now that Psionics isn't currently being worked on.

I can't imagine how they could do Dark Sun right now. That setting has slavery far too engrained into it, and given their recent Hadozee retcon and apology, it's clear that is a subject that they simply aren't willing to touch, even in the context of "this was an evil thing that happened in the past". They couldn't even time jump forward to a post-slavery Athas, they would have to retcon it away entirely. I don't understand a way for them to do that in a way that wouldn't feel like a totally different setting.

To be clear, the issue with the Hadozee wasn't just slavery by itself. There was more nuance to it than that.

Wait, if there's nuance, there's no way WOTC will be able to handle it XD

IIRC Hadozee originally didn’t even have that plot point, they added it to make a planet of the apes reference. I really doubt that they could make Athas at this point since slavery is such a big part of the setting. For my money I can understand why people wouldn’t want to play in Athas, it’s definitely not for everyone and the themes are pretty intense. It’s the sort of thing where I think fan conversions work better. Plus spelljammer really told me they hate writing crunch for anything and Athas needs hard rules for defiler/preserver magic, desert survival that isn’t trivialized by create water, and psionics
