Can one create a simulacrum of a construct? For a warforged, I would say unambiguously yes. But what of a golem? Isn't that more akin to a magical item? And what if the golem was awakened and given intelligence?
What is the consensus?

Don't golems et al. fall under Craft Construct [Item Creation]? Suggests they're items. :smalltongue:

Nothing in the spell restricts types or subtypes (including living or not living), so yes, by RAW you can make a simulacrum of basically anything -- even an incorporeal creature, if you can somehow manage to scoop out some ectoplasm (or whatever).

The only limit of Simulacrum (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/simulacrum.htm) spell is the number of creature's HD - thus, Golems, being creatures, are legit
Moreover - since Intelligent Items (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/intelligentItems.htm) are kinda creatures too (having Cha, Wis, and Construct type) - it can be argued you should be able to make a simulacrum of some talking sword (or whatever other Intelligent Item - swords are just a common example)

Makes for a twist - use Ice Assassin to copy a golem, buff it with the Share Spells analog it comes with from that, and have that guard stuff.
Less expensive than most golems.
