I recall there being a magic item in 3.5/pathfinder 1 that granted the effects of sleeping for 8 hours after resting only one hour, but can't seem to find it. Does anyone happen to know what this item was?

You're probably looking for Heward's fortifying bedroll, CM 132.

Note that it only works for a single person once every two days, so you should probably still nab yourself a ring of sustenance for the rest of the time.

Note: Heward's Fortifying Bedroll and the Pathfinder version of Ring of Sustenance both specify that they let you prepare spells without resting for 8 hours. The 3.5 version of Ring of Sustenance only says it reduces the need for sleep. So, much like an elf, it leaves you having to spend several hours sitting around not doing much to cover the difference between your sleep requirements and your spell preparation requirements.

Like crafting, or reading books, or casting contingency effects, or taking turn on watch.
