With the new UA, they defined the groups and their characteristics.

Expert
Bard, ranger, rogue, artificer

Polymaths who have the Expertise feature and elements of other Classes

Mage
Sorcerer, warlock, wizard

Adepts of Arcane magic, focusing on utility and destruction

Priest
Cleric, druid, paladin

Stewards of Divine or Primal magic, focusing on healing, utility, and defense

Warrior
Barbarian, fighter, monk

Masters of combat who can deal and endure many wounds

Plenty to unpack and speculate on this alone.
Will monks get buffed to be meatier for the frontline?
No hybrids with multiple groups? E.g. I find paladin more warrior than priest.
Getting 1 from each group in a 4 PC party has a caster range of 1.5 to 3.333

Basically

Expert
Skillmonkey

Mage
Blaster, Controller

Priest
Controller, Support

Warrior
Single target, Tank

Personally I hate these distinctions. They don't need to exist and unless certain classes get revamped as you mention, the theoretical aide to new players in class creation probably isn't as meaningful as is hoped

If the ranger blurb is anything to go by then Paladins will have the same access to "warrior" feats that they do

Yeah, hypothetically the bard is meant to fulfill the same role as a rogue but the advice they give is face skills instead of trapfinding and the like.
