People seemed to enjoy the list of all the times Redcloak smiled, so I wanted to see what we could find with the paladin we love to hate, the queen of rear-injected sticks, the jumper of conclusions, Miko!

279: No soup for you! (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0279.html), seeing Belkar fall to his probable death.
281: Get the lead out! (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0281.html), at the prospect of finding and beating Belkar into submission.
373: Caged (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0373.html), being given the opportunity to unveil the OotS's treachery and punish them
374: Black and Blue (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0374.html), anticipating that MitD will let her attack at full force without dodging.
409: Intercession (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0409.html), about to kill Belkar, deeply injuring Hinjo (2 smiles, maybe I should add quotes around "Evil" in the category title)

373: Caged (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0373.html), "understanding" that the OotS lied and were always lackeys of Xykon, and finding a way to escape the Moderately Escapable Forcecage. (2 smiles)
460: Sign, Sign, Everywhere a sign (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0460.html), knowing that the gods who made her fall now want her to escape justice because of a tiny crack in a prison bar.
462: Good Idea, Bad Idea (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0462.html), following the will of the gods by shattering the Gate.

215: Taking Charge (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0215.html), explaining gathering all ogres for
the mages to kill was her plan all along.
228: Unlawful Good (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0228.html), finding Belkar cannot protect from her Detect Evil.
270: Dueling Egos (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0270.html), "Lay on Hands, son. It heals in response to trauma. You can't hurt me."
372: Pot v. Kettle (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0372.html), boasting her immunity to fear in front of an undead.

250, Oh no, he DIDN'T! (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0250.html) Acknowledging Roy as a possible partner.
373: Caged (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0373.html), congratulating Windstriker for his help
464: Not for everyone (https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0464.html), at the thought of being rewarded for her actions and being a paladin again (2 smiles)

That's it, and oh my gods Miko doesn't smile much. She has slightly more than half as many appearances as Redcloak (an already notoriously unsmiling character), but smiles four times less. And more than half her smiles are just related to destroying her enemies. She is also among the characters (if not the single character) with the highest amount of appearances before her first smile on-panel. She is first unmasked on strip 200, and only smiles 15 strips later, despite appearing almost constantly in all the strips in-between. Perhaps even more interestingly, she doesn't seem affected by her Fall. There's no noticeable drop in number of smiles, and she even smiles twice on the very next strip. I think the most sure way to show that she has lost it was to show her smiling as she cut a paladin down.

Next time, I was thinking I should go for Vaarsuvius, who also doesn't smile much at all, but appears in a much higher number of strips and panels. What do you think?

There are some book-only smiles, too. In 313a, Miko warmly smiles twice while talking to fellow paladins. As far as I can tell, out of all the book-exclusive comic strips, this strip is the only one where Miko smiles.

Sounds good. In the meantime, I'll spare you the trouble of ever having to do Thanh. His facial expressions are mostly "moustache", "righteous moustache" and "angry moustache". His mouth is never shown.

Miko was an interesting character for sure. It's intriguing to see where and how she smiles, and the meaning of each. It fits her very well.

And I agree that V would be an excellent next pick, especially comparing pre soulsplice to post.
