Hello ppl,

I'm about to start a new campaign and I'm going to play as Bard.

I want to have a dragon as animal companion, familiar, whatever.

How can I do this?

Take the "Dragon Steed" feat

Take the "Dragon Familiar" feat

Take the "Leadership" feat and pick a dragon

Take the "Dragon Cohort" feat to get one for cheaper

If you're over level 9, you can get the Dragon Cohort feat. If you have a mount as a class feature (easiest class for this is Paladin), you can also get the Dragon Steed feat. However, you'll probably find it easier to be Small with a medium-size mount than medium with a large-size mount, both due to size issues when riding and how age works with a dragon's ECL.

Yes. Read Draconomicon, P139. That has a bunch of dragon mount options.

Taking talent Dragon Cohort, how would it work in the story part for this dragon reach me so we can work together?

Sounds like a question to ask your DM, unless your DM wants story ideas for it.

There are many ways to get a powerful dragon. Several Supermount theoretical optimization builds end up with a dragon, like this one: https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?142554-New-World-Record-Mount-Familiar-Companion-by-HD
You can take some of the ideas in there without going full cheese.

However, there are many other options:
- Dragon Ally spell line
- Planar Binding extraplanar dragons
- High diplomacy checks
- Polymorph any object a friendly kobold
- and my favorite: Cleric -> Elemental Domain -> Turning Optimization = Rebuke yourself a dragon.
<edit>
- Zhentarim Skymage + High Charisma can also get you a very good dragon if you are willing to be a part of a REAL ****ty organization.

There is also at least one prestige class that gets a dragon cohort as a capstone.
