I'll be playing my first game in several years later this month, what are the popular online character sheet these days? Last time I needed one I think I used Mythweavers. IIRC D&D Beyond you need to own all the various books you want to use content from? Thanks for any suggestions!

For DnDBeyond, you don't need to own any books as long as someone in your friend group does and has a pro subscription. They can use this to create a campaign, add your free account to it, and enable Content Sharing. The advantage to this approach is that DDB has a step-by-step wizard that lets you build characters of any level, checks the sheet against most of the rules in real time, and automates various things like critical hits and advantage/disadvantage.

If you don't have anyone in your friend group with this tier of DDB however, Myth-Weavers remains a decent free option. You'll have to fill out most of it manually but it's handy for sharing your sheet with your friends digitally.

I believe there are also third-party 5e character creator apps on mobile, though I haven't used any myself.

Thanks!

We've all got hardcopies of our books, no need to shell out more just for digital copies! :smalltongue:

Gotcha - then if no one in your group has DDB/content sharing, see second paragraph.

If you're interested, you can use the online character sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AaCGYgUZLehBswloejbr7n8LLxBAb2ae0pREo-vFKBE/edit?usp=sharing) I created. It's a Google spreadsheet, so it will autofill some things once you enter some initial values, but it doesn't have any kind of database for things like item statistics or to automatically add class features.

Just make a copy of the sheet and you should be able to edit it. Maybe save an unedited copy to make more copies from in case you lose the link.

Best options are:

- DND Beyond (https://www.dndbeyond.com/) It's the best option, but you may have to pay to buy some additional materials beyond the Starter Set. For small things, you can create Homebrew classes/spells/items and use them, but in general it is easier just to buy what you need.

- Gsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ApmbXHTln99fPTUpanyQRTXNzXbQ8UBTt3Uq8xInQKw/edit#gid=359784640): This is the classic Google Sheet template, it works well but you have to add everything manually.

- Dicecloud (https://dicecloud.com/) also has a good web interface, with some menus / options to make it easier.
