What would be a swamp-appropriate animal companion for a boggard ranger?

Snakes are an obvious choice, but I知 interested in something more unusual, and if possible fully amphibious. I知 open to all official Paizo and 3.5 content.

A quick glance at the PF SRD (for convenience, really) reveals that as far as swampy terrains are concerned, there's mostly snakes, the odd dinosaur (iguanodon), giant frogs and lots of birds. Birds might be a bit of an odd choice, but maybe interesting all the same, other than that my guess would be should you not hate it on principle a giant frog might be appropriate. You know, if you want a giant lil' toady for your frogperson. Alternatively, there are also a variety of lizards, such as giant salamanders and geckos or giant leeches, if that strikes your fancy. May not be part of the club of official swamp dwellers because not listed on the table, but valid all the same.

Crocodile would be nice, but that's not a 1st level option... maybe see if the DM will make a "baby" croc that has appropriate stats for your starting level, and have him grow to a proper size by the time you hit the equivalent level?

Don't Boggards canonically have giant frog cavalry?

If not, they absolutely should. They definitely did when I ran Kingmaker.

*checks* Okay so Giant Frog Animal Companions top out at Medium which is.... disappointing.

Going down the list of PF1e animal companions and searching for ones with "Swamp" as their native environments, there are a few other interesting picks:

Crocodile
Iguanadon
Heron, Yolubilis
Snapping Turtle

If you're going for unique any of those latter 3 is good. Iguanadons are awesome, but dinos don't fit every campaign. The Heron gets up to large size so is a swamp friendly flying mount eventually, which is awesome. Snapping Turtle is very slow but has a solid +12 baseline natural armor and grab on its bite.
