(Fully conceding in advance that I feel like an idiot for even having to ask this)

My party just had a run-in with a bunch of Stirges, and one of the PC's took CON damage from them. I'm satisfied we applied the damage correctly (1HP/level per CON increment lowered), but, how does CON loss recover? Does it "heal" with rest the same way as HP? And, when it is restored, do the lost HP restore automatically, or do they have to be healed separately?

Ability damage heals at a rate of 1 point per ability per night's rest (2 points when doing a full day's rest; double the amount if you get medical care (through a Heal check)). The reduction of hit points is reversed automatically when the Con damage is restored.

Exactly as Tzardok said. Details in the SRD here (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#abilityScoreLoss) and here (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/heal.htm). The only thing to add is that if you can make DC 50 or higher heal checks you can speed it up still further; details here (https://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/skills.htm#heal). Although it's listed under epic rules, you don't have to be epic level to do it if you can make the DC (although some DMs don't allow epic skill uses at all obviously).

Plus, the whole restoration line of spells is conceived to speed up recovery of ability damage.

(And a few other less well-known spells and abilities. I may have a full list somewhere, ask if you want me to look for it.)
