Hey all, question: how does the 3.x forums here deal with handbooks? The 5e section has a sticky thread "5e Notable Threads" which includes a list of 5e handbooks. Does this board has something similar? Or do you need a search engine to find a specific handbook?

Reason I'm asking is that lots of years a go I made a bunch of handbooks for this edition (see my sig) and I can port them over here if there is any interest, since these boards are a lot more active (BG being dead for over a deacade, and min/max boards not being used much I think).

I don’t believe that there is a handbook megathread, but I could be wrong about that. I think most of us just google “<class> handbook dnd 3.5” for the results we want

While there are no megathreads, it can't hurt to port the threads over here. You never know when a particular board is going to go offline and redundancy doesn't hurt.

If you're interested in updating them, I'm sure other people would be willing to add their own ideas and thoughts.

I've always thought it a shame that GitP forums doesn't have a "handbooks" subforum, the way BG forums did. I especially liked how handbook writers were encouraged to create a separate thread for discussion of the handbook, in the "handbook discussion" sub-subforum. And lets not forget how the entire "handbooks" subforum, as well as the entire "handbook discussion" sub-subforum were exempt from thread necromancy restrictions, so people could give feedback on the guides even months after they were posted.

To be fair, their are more than a few incomplete handbooks on bg. If someone gets a mind to port handbooks, they should be inspected in detail.

Strangely, we have a Pathfinder optimization guide compendium (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?233029-PF-Optimization-Guides-Compendium), but apparently none for D&D 3.5.

We could ask a moderator to create a thread with all gitp 3.5 handbooks (including the pathfinder ones mentioned here) and make it sticky? I guess there is no forum policy against it since 5e has one. Does this sub-forum has a specific moderator, or does all moderators do all fora? I'll drop a message.

YES!

I was only planning to port over my own, and those are finished. Concur that if others are ported over should be checked though.

Always welcome.

Man, a 'master list' thread for handbooks would certainly be an epic-level undertaking at this point!

Now I'm inspired. I'll see what I can do.

Hey all, question: how does the 3.x forums here deal with handbooks?
TBH I'm not even sure if handbooks are subject to being permalocked if their thread isn't posted in for, what is it, 45 days? You know, the thread necro rule.

Anyway, here's my Magus handbook (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?423754-Myrrh-Frankincense-and-Steel-Kurald-Galain-s-Guide-to-the-Magus). I've tried the reverse (porting it to BG/MM) but I couldn't get that to work, probably because (as you say) BG has been dead for a long time.

Do include The TWF Off-Handbook (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?279079-3-5-The-TWF-OffHandbook) and Urpriest's Monstrous Monster Handbook (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?207928-Urpriest-s-Monstrous-Monster-Handbook)

Sounds like a great idea, I'll try to find some I used to read.

Even some incomplete ones are still pretty good.

Ported the first one here: https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?654372-Umbral-Disciple-handbook

The moderators are discussing the option of a sticky thread, and thread necro / multiposting in relation to handbooks.

We've got a pretty large index over on Min-Max here (https://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=399.0)
